I had to add something extra onto an Amazon order the other day, so it would pass the minimum amount for allowing an add-on item that I wanted. And clicking some related links brought me to the sweetest thing I've ever seen on Amazon. Look at the Frequently Bought Together! If I had to describe it in one word, I would say...

Canon!

Canon canon canon canon canon!

And, just in case any pedants are inclined to argue the point, I offer the following rebuttals in advance:

The question now becomes whether they've recently got together in a romantic sense, with that having developed from their friendship, or whether they were a couple all along.

I think the answer is a nice one either way. Look at how happy they are together

Even across different universes. 'There's a path for everyone. Your path leads you back to me.'

Anyone trying to "rebut" this is just factually years behind at this point.

Lyrabon is canon; StarTrix is canon; Sciset is endgame, currently held back only by awful decisions.

The amount of happiness contained in those GIFs is hypnotic  Why anyone would look at those events unfold and immediately try to detract from them is completely beyond me :facehoof:

4881400 True! I think StarTrix was complicated for a little while with Rock Solid Friendship, because Maud and Starlight were amazing together, but that's something Mudbriar's presence clears up at least.

Out of interest, do you prefer SciSet or SunLight (as in with Pri-Twi)? Always favoured the latter myself, but I agree the former is much closer to confirmation these days.

One of the comments I saw several times on Lyra and Bon Bon in the hearts and hooves day episode was 'Hasbro aren't even trying to disguise it anymore' - to which I say: Good? That's something we should be encouraging them to be open about, surely? I know a lot of people were no doubt upset about Maud and Mudbriar (because, again, Maud x Starlight x Trixie would be beautiful), but it's not like anyone shipped either Lyra or Bon Bon with anypony but each other, ever.

I think, though, the sweetness of it being confirmed like this is all the stronger for it being left nebulous for so long, so I won't hold that against them the writers of older episodes too much.

4881429 I completely agree! Looking through them is an instant recipe to feel better about everything

And them being that way together is something that only works because they're background ponies. Imagine how saccharine it would be if two of the mane cast hooked up like that, and how quickly it would get old and need drama thrown in to keep it interesting. But because we only see them once every few episodes, they can be this perfect romance that it's lovely to think is going on elsewhere while the focus is on friendship missions and stuff.

I tried to stick with gifs to show that it's not just in isolated frames where they look like they're making bedroom eyes because they're actually mid-biink or similar, but that the scenes are every bit as genuinely loving as they look. That one of Lyra standing on the chair was too happy to pass up though :yay:

Anyhow! I like Sunlight all right (I was shipping it hard in 2014, when RR was the extent of the EQG lore we had, and I'll still read the hell out of any one I come across) but from Friendship Games onward, SciSet has been just such a beacon of perfection for me that I actually ship DoubleTwi more than I do Sunlight. ^^;

The worlds that Sunset and Sci come from, both physical and metaphorical, just lend themselves to more and deeper romance stories for me. They could date for years and get married for years and they'd always be an endless life adventure for each other, with two whole universes to explore between them--again, physically and emotionally. Conflict or happy times, putting those two characters together just provides endless material to mine compared to Sunlight or... 95% of known ships in the fandom tbh. Probably only Twidash, StarTrix and Sundagio come close. :3 Maybe also Embrax.

(Granted, a bias exists; Sci is also tied for my favorite character, meaning that pretty much all of my SciSet fics touch more on the SciTwi experience rather than your usual foray into how perfect of a waifu Sunset is for the author that you'll normally see on this site. :raritywink:)

I haven't watched the H&H Day episode yet--quite frankly I was dreading it due to this show's abysmal romantic track record. :twilightsheepish: I'm glad it got something right, though, lol.

And yes please, more of Hasbro being overt about ships that aren't awful--orientation regardless. It's not Lyrabon's fault that 99% of this show's romances are lackluster at best. :trollestia:

4881642 The Hearts and Hooves Day one was definitely one of the better ones this season! If you bear in mind that it obviously involves a silly misunderstanding as part of its premise, then it's pretty good aside from that. It kind of avoided saying much about relationships at all, really? I'm planning to do a blog in a couple of days going over the first half of the season so far, if that's of any help.

I'd say romance doesn't really belong in the show, really :twilightoops: It's wonderful having Lyra and Bon Bon in the background, but I think putting romantic relationships front and centre rather undercuts the friendship focus. And addressing it in a way that's suitable for the show's target demographic but nuanced enough for everyone else is tricky. That's one of the reasons I think shipping Pri-Twi with Flash fell so flat in EG1, and the whole thing with Timber Spruce wasn't well received either, even though they'd tried a lot harder to come up with a character Twilight might actually be interested in. There are lots of other reasons too, but let's ignore those for now. So I'm glad they don't put too much emphasis on the relationships otherwise in the show. But them being open about this background ship is no bad thing, and I like to think Starlight and Trixie have got a bit of that going too.

They're the only one of those pairings you mention I'm a fan of, really :twilightblush: I've not read any stories shipping them, though, or all but one of the other pairings. I see what you mean with some about the amount of material they provide, though! I guess I haven't really seen or read enough of Sci-Twi to really judge how well she'd fit with Sunset, in that respect? I haven't read many EG ships, come to think about it, outside of those with the sirens.
