An encouraging word

Ephesians 2:8-9; "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves; it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast."

We can't save ourselves, Only God can do that. It's not that we shouldn't do good things; we should. But not out of fear of not being saved or for reward. We should do good out of love for our God and our neighbor.

Hebrews 13:9; "Your hearts should be strengthened by God's grace, not by obeying rules."

Or, as Max Lucado says on page 49 of his book Grace;

Jesus does not say, "Come to me, all you who are perfect and sinless." Just the opposite. "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28 NASB).

We should obey God's Word. It is there for our good and His glory. We should do good things for the right reasons; they show love and care to the weak and helpless, and help other people get back on their feet. But we are saved by God, not our efforts.
