Deities of AssassinationVerse: Amanari, The Goddess of the Kitsune · 2:59am Jun 7th, 2018

9. Amanari, Goddess of the Kitsune

Most of the race gods experiences as mortal versions of themselves has never been pleasant. Seremora became obsessed with vice and pleasure. Septum Cain became mortal in his duel against Discord and was scattered. Yet, one goddess has never regretted her decision and that is Amanari, the goddess of Kitsune. Among the gods, she was a warrior of honor and courage. She held duty sacred and was loyal to those whose she saw as friends such as Septum Cain, Fausticorn, Seramora, and Ashina. Yet if there was one weakness of hers it was her pride. She boasted about her great achievements and took no insults, even from friends. When Amanari was trusted by the creator gods with the duty of raising the sun, while Ashina was given the duty of raising the moon, she bragged about it which lessened her friendship with others. Later on she was given the duty of raising the moon after Ashina fell into her sorrowful coma.

Like Sagara, Amanari created her people, the Kitsune, in isolation. They were given a content island they named Kyukyo, and followed the Code of Bushido. A set of laws the determined the ranks, cast, rules, rituals, and principles they would follow. The Kitsune would developed into various classes such as farmers, merchants, smiths, sailors, priests and more, with the number of tails you had indicating how high you were in the ranking of your class. The highest anybody had even gotten at that time was seven. The one class held in the highest regard were the Samurai Class. They were warriors of renounced swordsmanship and warfare. So skilled in the arts of battle that one Samurai was worth sixteen common soldiers. Various clans would rise over time and fight in near endless wars until one Lord Tsuneo rose to power. He was young, smart, clever, and skilled in both warfare and politics. He was devoted to his goddess, and studied philosophy. When he finally ruled all the land, he declare himself Emperor.

Amanari, curious of this new ruler of her people, went in mortal form to judge him. However, so unused to being a mortal, she found herself lost in the woods much to her embarrassment. Yet by luck, Emperor Tsuneo was wondering on his own, enjoying nature when he saw the most beautiful kitsune he had ever seen. In an instant, he fell in love with her, and introduced himself while asking her to join him for dinner. Amanari, surprised by his kindness, agreed. She stayed with him... and over time she too fell in love with him. However, after months of being together, Amanari couldn't lie anymore and revealed herself to him which he accepted her true form. They married in secret, and made love together. The first, and only time, a god and a mortal ever to be together romantically.

However, Amanari had to keep her relationship with him a secret (Although rumor has it Cern and Nora knew) as it was forbidden for gods to be with mortals. However, Amanari found herself pregnant with her husband's child. Fausticorn found out, and despite Amanari's pleas to not to tell, Fausticorn did so believing it to be the right choice. The Creator Gods were not pleased and told Amanari she was forbidden to be mortal again or to be with her husband. She also had a choice to make, either lose her child or lose her duty as raiser of the sun and moon. The old Amanari would have never sacrificed her duty for anything, but having loved the child and her husband, she agreed to give give up the sun and moon. It was given to Fausticorn, causing a divide between the two friends that has never healed, even though Fausticorn believes she did the right thing. Amanari gave birth to her son, Inari, who was born half god and half mortal with nine tails. Amanari said farewell to her husband, and shed tears that were later used to make the sword Naku tengoku no ken, which has served as the royal sword since.

Inari eventually became Emperor and brought a golden age to his people having found contact with the Dragon Empire and established an alliance. Each Emperor or Empress of the Kisune carries the blood of the goddess in them, thus they are worshiped. While non since Inari has held nine tails, some have held seven or eight. Amanari, despite unable to be mortal, protects her bloodline fiercely and no wraith will be greater then be to hurt her family. Mesmoria and the changelings found that out, even though it was based on a lie and Amanari regrets it since. After the fall of the Dragon Kingdom, the Kitsune have mostly kept to themselves with little contact with the outside world except for trade. The current Emperor, Yukimura, has opened his country more to outsiders, but there is still a coldness between ponies and kitsune due to Fausticorn's actions.

Standing With Other Gods: Most gods have a neutral or friendly feeling with Amanari, even though they disapprove of her having a half breed child. Almost all of her close friends are either scattered, insane, or in a coma. Fausticorn and her are civil to each other, but there is still a cold feeling between the two.

Looks: A giant nine tailed fox like Kyuubi, but female and wears golden samurai armor with nine swords.

Religious Structure: Shinto based, with a heavy emphases on the Emperor's family being a god due to actually having gods blood. The Emperor, unlike Japan's, is not a figure head and has absolute final power.

Afterlife: Souls spend a hundred years in heaven or hell before being reincarnated.

This is an interesting people. There is so much work going into this universe I wonder if it will get covered?

I guess Amanari's love was greater than her pride, in the end.
