Some great fics that became inactive and what they have in common.

Ever see a story with like 1k likes and 90 dislikes, notice it says incomplete or hiatus at the bottom, and then read it and its quite enjoyable, just for it to end too soon?

Well I'm gonna share a few fics similar enough to that.

Backwards through the mirror is one of the most unique stories I have read. It involves essentially geas with anything in a parallel dimension that ponies tend to make with basically anything in the environment to get through a trial after being kidnapped, but it lasts for years and they change for better and for worse reflecting their struggles they had went through. This fic is still ongoing even if updates are slow, and is quite a fun read and opens you up to many new fics to enjoy. I think they tried to collab with fics that they enjoyed to give more awareness to. Its what introduced me to Backwards Through the Mirror.

This fic reads very well. You can even pick up on a sorta vibe based on conversation almost like foreshadowing but for world building, like one line for Queen Solar Flare almost nearly implies she knows what a burnt dead body taste like (if memory serves) it sorta gives that attitude or vibe without truly confirming it. Its been a while since I have read it but I think its got some enjoyable grammar structure.

Basically the CMC have a surgery to allow them to wield guns and swords, and are sent into battle. It does get into the psychology. Its quite enjoyable, not much else to say. There was an april fools teaser I believe, so its not outside of their mind this story its possible we will reach a conclusion.

This one goes through some sick occult transformation that feels almost metal af, but minus a few themes of metal. Idk, its just glorious. Then the aftermath is pure trauma psychology and dealing with the after-effects of the curse/ritual. And that's it, it just stops there.

It starts very strong and made me madly desire more similar fanfics, which is NightmareMoon raising Twilight Sparkle. By the end tho, I am like, wtf is with this annoying deer I want them to f off. Then it just abruptly stops. My description probably does not do it justice lol.

All the fics on this list seriously need an update, my life would be more complete for sure if they did, and maintained the styles of the original chapters.
Except this fic https://www.fimfiction.net/story/103728/twilights-secret Also on hiatus this fic was a curious little read. I wouldn't die for a new chapter of this one tho (a new chapter would still be enjoyed however). Basically, it starts off with Twilight's innocent curiosity of what eating meat is like. And it doesn't descend into anything grimdark or anything, its pretty relaxed almost refreshing.

And all of these, with possible exception to Night Mares, Sweetie Chronicles, and Twilight's Secret, I would LOVE to have it compiled into an incomplete series fanfics hardback novel or something. Some of the best ideas people might just be too busy for, too self conscious for, have a change of heart, who knows. But outside of Hard Reset and a couple others, these are all my favorite fics. Something about these ones are just amazing. Most of them started being developed around 2013 or so. Maybe that was the magic year, and people fell out with the fandom's reduction in activity.

Also I want you all to show me other worthy fics that your heart aches for that has literally been on hiatus for years. The one thing most of these have in common, is either the Dark tag, or Unicorn/Twilight protagonist, [before she got wings], a great proportion of likes to dislikes, and came from 2013, and deals with double-edged swords (curses, body modification, geas (dark contract sorta)).

I think what they ALL have in common is exploration of the Id or subconscious. [For Examples:] Twilight raised by an 'evil' NMM. An Evil Luna/Celestia. A parallel 'psycho-reactive' dimension with dark machinations. A curse that changes your life forever. Modified for battle and dealing with the stresses of battle and psychology. Many varieties of trials. And eating meat, as a peace loving pony.

Hard Reset is one of my favorite fics too and they went through many trials, albeit Hard Reset doesn't fit this list, its almost a justification for a theory of struggle and coping. That is what makes some of the greatest fics. Albeit not every fic on the list fits that strictly or at all.
