So, I could finally read the Movie Prequel Comics yesterday and..... · 7:27pm Jun 1st, 2018
..... there is a problem with my multi-chapter fic for Tempest Shadow now.
When I saw the movie in October, I quickly developed a few theories about Tempest Shadow, based on some observations from the movie. One was that Tempest Shadow already came to the Storm King when she was still a filly, that the Storm King raised her and trained her to become the super soldier of his army, because he saw the potential in her.
The plan was to have Tempest Shadow being lost for a while, then coming to the Storm King rather early on, maybe after five or six chapters, and still at the age she had when she left her village, and to focus on the relationship between her and the Storm King from that point on. There would have been a lot of conditioning of Tempest; hard training, cruel disciplinary measures, maybe even some brainwashing, punishment, emotional abuse, done by the Storm King to turn her into the soldier he wants to have. And also (fake) fatherliness, to bond Tempest to him.
Tempest would have stayed with him and endured all that, because she didn't have any other family (least, none she wants to return to) anymore. The promise to fix her horn would have come into play much later and I imagined that Tempest got that promise out of him shortly before the events of the movie, when they discovered together what the Staff of Sarconis can do.
Another theory was about Grubber. In the movie, I noticed a nice dynamic between them, some amount of sympathy for each other that indicated that Tempest, despite not wanting to have friends anymore, likes him in a way and that they have a rather close bond between each other, even though not exactly the classical kind of friendship. More like a relationship akin to soulmates, because both of them were lost in some way, even though Grubber's reason for that would have probably been a different one.
So I theorized that Tempest met Grubber not too long after leaving her village and that he, somehow, managed to gain her trust and that he was the only one from that point on that Tempest trusted.
After some adventures and hardships, they would have met the Storm King and Tempest would have decided to join him. Grubber would have joined the Storm King alongside her, out of a desire to protect her and perhaps even to try getting the idea to stay with the Storm King out of her head again and convince her of fleeing from him together, which would have brought up conflicts between them throughout the story, when Tempest refused to leave.
The reason why I would have portrayed him as such a good guy in the fic, is because he does not come across evil in the movie at all, more like he is with the Storm King for an incidental reason or for a certain goal he has. In the movie, he often seems like he doesn't really care about the Storm King's business, hence why he halfasses so many things, like, speaking out pointless threats that don't even sound dangerous.
Which is, at the end of the day, probably just the fact that the Storm King offers excellent meals. But due to my theory, I thought there is a much deeper reason for that.
Now, after reading the prequel comics, I unfortunately have to scrap both of these ideas. They have revealed that Tempest Shadow met the Storm King and joined his ranks only a, more or less, short time before the events of the movie, when she was already adult and on her own for decades.
More than that, she did not even know the Storm King and had never heard of him before. And neither did she know Grubber before.
With this, my theories got disproven, which suddenly leaves me without my two biggest ideas for Tempest's long story of what happened to her after leaving her village.
This doesn't mean the story is cancelled. I will still write it, although have to come up with a lot of new ideas for it now.
Which is not entirely bad, as it gives me a lot more freedom. All we see Tempest Shadow say about the time after she left her home in the prequel comics is that she went to a lot of places and has seen a lot and that she is alone for so long already, that she doesn't even remember anymore how long.
So, I can now do pretty much anything I want with this story, as that makes it a complete mystery what happened to her during all that time.
The downside is that, because my initial ideas are useless now (unless I would go for Alternate Universe, which I don't plan on), I have to take more time to figure out the plot of it.
This means that I will have to delay the release probably until next week. Which is unfortunate and I hate it that I have to do this again and let you wait with this story even longer, but the "Power of Canon" is stronger than my wish of giving you the prologue this week. And I don't want to start releasing the fic without having a secure plan for it.
As always, I will keep you up-to-date on the progress of the story-planning process and I will tell you the exact new release date once I have figured out what should happen in the story now.
With that said, today won't be a day without a fic release anyway..... I currently write a surprise story I got inspired for during a certain event last Saturday.
Hint: If you play a certain pony game, you might know what I'm talking about already. 
And somewhere in this blog entry, there might be a second hint to what it is.....
It's a very lighthearted and fluffy fic, so if what I released last week was too dark and serious for you, you will probably get your fill with this one.

I liked the idea a lot, too. And was very convinced that my theories are right. Although, my ideas could hardly be more interesting than canon, cause the prequel comics did not even tell us what epic or exciting things might have happened during all that time Tempest was alone.
We might find something out about that in the future, perhaps even sooner than later, as there is a comic arc with Tempest coming up, but until then, I hope to fill in the blanks with exciting stuff.
