    Bucket List Results

Remember the spring break bucket list I posted about a month ago? Well, it's time to look at the results. And I'd say I did quite well. Especially if you consider how much I added since the initial post. Who knows, I might be able to cross off a few more the next couple days, as my initial plan to be already playing Persona 5 Royal at this point took quite a hit.

    Goddammit Nintendo

Just casually releasing a new Direct.
And only half-revealing the next Smash fighter. Though I'm glad for the franchise.

Marwile watches SAO Part 10 "Lazy Copy" · 10:27pm May 25th, 2018

Let's get right to it. Kirito meets Egil, who tells him of a new VRMMO called "Alfheim Online". So thousands of people died because of SAO and they're still casually selling these things. There's a political joke somewhere. And apparently Asuna is trapped in a birdcage in the hardest to reach area of the game. Nope, won't make dump jokes about that.

Kirito decides to ignore his PTSD and try the game. And instead of the safe Amusphere Kirito makes a point out of using the Nervegear... Again, the video game equivalent of putting your head into the microwave.

He starts the game and we immediately see one of the biggest problems of Alfheim: Randomized Character Creation. Of course Kirito still looks like Kirito, except with longer ears and spiky hair. He even has the black cloak.

Upon arrival the game bugs out and drops him in a random forest. He immediately notices that somehow his stats and items from SAO carried over... including Yui. Kirito revives her and she tells him how everything carried over because Alfheim is a copy of SAO aka lazy handwaving to justify Kirito still being OP. She then also realizes she's now a helfer fairy and turns into Navi. Kirito also tries flying for the first time. Wanna bet how long it'll take him to master? Also one question, they can fly as long as their wings are sparkling, but how are they supposed to see that with the wings on their backs?

We cut to a girl named Leafa and please tell me at least the original dub bothered to give her a slightly different voice than Suguha. Leafa and her friend get ambushed. Her friend dies... not really dies, it's a normal game now... The probaly only interesting thing about SAO is gone... Leafa falls into the woods, but before the attackers can do something Kirito appears and saves her. Great way to introduce a new character, have them be saved by Kirito literally catching a lance with one bare hand.

I'm also a bit concerned that Leafa apparently not immediately recognized her brother. Please tell me I'm wrong.

I can only imagine how that meeting went.

"So... you just copied the engine of the most infamous MMO in history."
"Uh, yeah, copied the engine. And nothing else."
"And you want us to try to sell it."
"Yup."
"Did you at least take out the back door that lets psychopaths trap people in the game and nuke their brains for no discernable reason?"
"... Is it too late to push back the release date a little?"

Too be fair it's not really hand waving it's kind of a big part of the Villains scheme.

I love the part where ALL THE ITEMS are bugged and don't work, except Yui, who works properly, unlike how it was in Alfheim. Convenient.

Fair warning- this is the last stop. It's only going to get worse from now.

If you think about it it does make sense, The items are bugged because they don't actually exist within ALO. The reason Yui works is because she was originally a part of SAO's system and since ALO uses a copy it makes sense that she would be able to integrate herself into the system without too much trouble. She didn't work in SAO's system because it was actively trying to get rid of her and since ALO's system is just copy there is no such problem.

After the launch:
"You had one job!"

4869534
Though that doesn't really explain why Kirito has the same stats despite creating a new character. That's as if all games with the Unity engine would share the same save file.

I prefer the part where Kirito actually hesitates to delete them, because of all the great memories connected to them. I'm pretty sure that's not how PTSD works.
And I won't give up. It's also too fun to rant about it on Discord.

I can't remember if they explained it right away or not but it was basically a bug caused by the fact that the nerve gear contained his data from SAO. I know that seems like lazy programming but later on it becomes understandable why the people who put ALO together didn't make sure bugs like this couldn't happen.

Hey, I just watched episode 6 of SAO alternative (Couldn't find the recap episode, though).
Well, my theory got debunked for the most part.
I was right about M being a young atypical boy (many things about his manners makes me think he's an Asperger) but the way he tells it Pito really has serious mental issues, bringing the death scenario to life.
I'm not fully convinced that's the whole truth, maybe M is just the kind of guy who can't tell when somebody actually means his words (quite common in Aspergers). I don't quite understand why Llyn didn't want to join the second tournament, though. She had a lot of fun the first time, and she even made friends thanks to it...
Anyway, the best part was when she calls her gamer friend to team up with her. Boy, she was triggered.

Yeah, I saw ep 6 right after reading your theory and, I have to admit, I found it a bit funny how quickly and hard your theory was disproven (except it's pulling an alfheim but I hope not). I think M is genuine and the anime will put a bigger focus on Pito. I just saw ep 7 and, without spoiling, it reinforced everything M said. Also Llenn's friend only gets better.
I can't help with recap episode, I only know a version with german sub. Just search for episode 5.5. And if you find it stay until the very end.

Dude, I just got here, I have to ask the question: why in the holy mother of John Travolta's perfect blue jeans you watching SAO? And furthermore, how have you not gone insane yet?

4871206
Curiosity, attempting to get better at regular blogging, the fact I usually have nothing better to do when it's on TV and probably a bit of masochism. And who said I'm not already insane?:pinkiecrazy:
