How to pony gun? · 9:53am May 22nd, 2018
So, I've been buzzing my brain on how to realistically make the all so familiar firearms work in descriptive writing.
I've seen, heard and read some interesting depictions of this puzzle:
from just using your fetlock to pull the trigger.
wrist-mounted guns
or brandishing firearms in magic or wings
etc, etc, etc.
there is even a story that features augmentation to accommodate themselves to use guns.
then there is my vision of this gun puzzle:
A simple device created to be fitted over the trigger guard of a firearm to convert the trigger into a crossbow style trigger system so that a pony user can hold the gun and fire with a simple squeeze of this lever. all based on a gun lock that fits over trigger guard; this can only work on long arms, however, pistol designs were in the works but since pistols were reserved for the officers at the time this device was in use so the idea was scrapped. only bolt action and breach loaded small arms were issued to ponies just FYI; lever action rifles would've made an appearance in the hands of the few rare Griffin volunteer fighters.
In one of my stories, A Remmington Rolling block appears with one of such devices mounted which granted the earth pony shooter ease of use when engaging some pesky trespassers. worked great till the bullets ran out...
As a steampunk/realistic/historical writer, I try to come up with unique ways to make things work in stories as well physically visualize how something would work. and yes, I've balled my hands into "hooves" to figure out how a pony would manipulate a weapons action.
Automatic weapons, on the other hand, were never a thing because of the fact that due to the technology regulations for the Realm Jumpers set by the Grand Commander of the Shadanian Armed forces; there were hardly any automatic small arms or Heavy machine guns issued during the currently ongoing exploration of the Equestrian realms. the closest of this category if ever deployed would be the various types of Gatling guns, for example, the reissuing of the Steel and Irons model 1924 infantry four barrel and six barrel Gatling guns, AKA the "Street Organ"; into front-line service from the previously set civil defense service.
Now, there is a whole spiel on guns and ponies but I think this is good enough for a random info dump for the night. XD
