New story: Roam-Springa · 12:34am May 18th, 2018
I don't usually broadcast new stories. If people want to read my stuff, they're probably going to see it anyway. But I'm excited about releasing this one.
Long ago, I decided I just liked the horse-ish pun of roam-springa and thought it might be fun to do a short comedy on the subject, but it never really gained any traction in my head. But years later, I was having a chat with Present Perfect, and he said he fancied the idea of Cloudy Quartz reminiscing about old times and old loves while strolling through Ponyville, then we started hashing out who might have caught her eye when she was young, and what about them interested her. And just like that, we had a story idea. I left it for him to write, but he had other priorities, and just as much as I was arguing for him to write it he was arguing for me to. Then I hit a spot where there wasn't anything I wanted to write at the moment, and I got enthusiastic about the idea. It doesn't exactly follow the track we'd laid out, but it mostly does, and I had a great deal of fun writing this. It's one of the few stories that just flowed out instead of me having to push any part of it to get done. And the last chapter has a great big hook for a side story that I'm still bugging Present to write. >:V
Anyway, PP and maskedferret both had a gander through it for me, and they helped a lot, plus AugieDog gave it the thumbs-up for Equestria Daily. Just an intro there. I might repeat some of this in the author's note for the final chapter, and I'll save the rest of my explanatory notes for then. Happy reading!

knighty's in the pre-reader Discord, and I when I was first setting up this story, I told him I was surprised I had to use "Other" for Cloudy Quartz. He wasn't surprised he didn't have a tag for her specifically, bu he was surprised there wasn't a Pie Family tag to cover more than just the sisters. I was hoping he'd done something about it, but maybe Chapped came through. I still do need the Other tag for someone who shows up at the end of chapter 2 and is a significant player the rest of the way.

It's definitely coincidence, but just recently I wrote a Pie-centered story about a journey to Ponyville, also with the idea of reminiscence in mind. I guess that rocky family has been on everyone's eyes for a good while.
