About MLP: The Movie (2017) · 7:03am Apr 29th, 2018
So, finally got around to watching the movie today. I won't lie, I was kinda worried I'd have wasted money on a dud film and end up cursing my fan devotion to the series, especially after hearing such mixed reception. But, like dropping into a boiling hot tub, once I was in, I was able to properly relax.
For me, the movie was actually pretty good. Not stellar or amazing or even "great", but it was very entertaining, had some great moments, character interactions, I loved Tempest as the villain (let's be real, she was the real villain of the story, with a surprisingly well done start-up redemption in the end), the humor was decently timed and paced out, and the music was enjoyable (even though the genres used weren't my cup of tea).
With this said, like alot of people have stated, its first half is definitely its weakest (feeling it went by a little too fast, even though there was some justification as to why it moved that quick), and the Storm King, whom was somewhat built up to be this behind-the-scenes big bad pulling all the strings was actually quite a cookie cutter powerlust villain. It was a good thing that, despite being built up as being the actual threat, I saw Tempest as the true villain of the story. Cold, out to prove a point, threatening, commanding, but still seemingly hiding emotional scars with all the little details in her movements in animation. All the little twitches and short blank stares when things aren't quite right or when what she once had is rubbed in her face.
All in all, I'm quite glad I have this film in my little collection, both as a movie and as a piece of my FiM goodies, and I may watch it again in the future.
IF I were to rate it, I'd say it's easily a comfortable 7/10.
That's all I have to say.
Oh, and still working on stuff. Kind of... I'll show you later. Promise.
