    For why I'm not updating:

Bought it Tuesday night, promptly spent 26 hours on it in two days, stopping only to sleep and wash clothes.

I had things that needed doing.

    Like building solar panels.

And hydroponics bays to grow food in the winter.

Just got this on Steam and I've been playing it pretty crazily.

I love that intro. In less than two minutes they artistically cover the setting of the BattleTech/MechWarrior universe and illustrate some of the key plot points. Of course they miss a bit (the Outer Reaches Rebellion, the Age of War, the Reunification War), but hey, it's a long history, hard to get EVERYTHING in such a tiny timespan. Also don't like the light show for the JumpShips; they don't do that, they just blink in and out. But meh, can't have it all your own way.

The game itself is pretty good, even if it seems a bit unoptimized to me; really long load times and chugging, especially when the AI is working on a problem. That might be my computer, though, so YMMV.

From a story point of view, I'm kinda disappointed they basically went with typical bad fanfiction setting: magic new faction that's nestled into canon where nothing should be. (I should know how bad an idea that is; my older Battletech story on Fanfiction.net has that mistake). But otherwise the story has been pretty decent so far, and it really makes you feel the BattleTech setting.

Overall as a fan and as a gamer, I'm pretty pleased with it, but with the caveat that it could and should be better; various things bug me, and it doesn't seem to run as well as it should, but they're not huge problems for me.

We finally got a glorious, full 3-D BattleTech game on PC, lads. I'm giddy. Well, I would be, if I didn't have to take a break after that one story mission with FREAKING IMPOSSIBLE SECONDARY OBJECTIVES WHAT IS THAT.

Here's where I'd say I actually have started pecking at Falling Stars again but at this point I'm sure everyone's just rolling their eyes, not that I blame you. Anyway, take care.

I'm not rolling my eyes, I'm just waiting ever so patiently.

Surprised someone is, but I'll try to get it finished for those few who remain. :pinkiecrazy:

I know the exact mission my friend. I tried it twice before I just decided to let it be. Also, I agree with your assessment 100%. Could be better, but I love it all the same! Have you reached the.”recover asset” mission yet? With Alexander?

4848412
I am with Ryouga1100. I am waiting for the hard fought battles, the bad mercs getting beaten and showed what justice is, Equestria learning from their encounter, Celestia either Dying, threading her way back to life, or blasting out with all the power that was beamed into her. and finally Rainbow Dash getting her last rasher of bacon. I am curious as to what will happen to anypony who goes with them when they leave.

The game is great. Except for the enemy constantly headshoting my commander. Just missile spam until he is injured and out for 20 days. T_T

Yeah BattleTech.... now that it is out, I don’t have the time I need to play it how it should be playe: in one go.
But hey, good to know you’re working on Falling star.

Hmmm too bad you’re stuck with junk as a first mech... not even A Centurion or Hunchback. I think I’m going to tweak that critical error now and start again.

The game is literally unplayable for me. After one two hour session where I basically got through the tutorial, it won’t load my saves or let me start a new campaign or even skirmish. Soooo frustrating since I’ve been waiting on the game for years! :flutterrage:

At this point I’ve spent like eight hours trying everything to get it to work and... ugh.:ajsleepy:

I just wish the company didn't let so much of their own political leanings bleed into the game. Grates annoyingly on me since I do not find games a place for political statements delivered with the grace of a sledgehammer to the nose.

Still a decent game, but also leaks memory like a sieve, and I think they totally dropped the ball with almost every single mechwarrior skill. They are all so bland and boring.
Also I keep expecting after 20 hours of gameplay that any new or unique weapons will appear, but no. Best you can hope for is a couple of extra plus signs, since all weapons are available from start.
The mech upgrade system could have been made more interesting since they changed it from the board game anyway.

I'm addicted on steam as well, though some of the missions are getting a bit frustrating..... as for the story, I am less eye rolling and more puppy dog eyes about that. ^.^

I'm loving this game so much. Been waiting so many years for it. Since Crescent Hawks Inception.

Load times can be annoying, especially if you try to save-scum some critical point in a mission, or to get all three pieces of salvage from a Black Knight when you went 1/4 on salvage rights... A night well spent!

Also, I may have cried a little first time I watched the intro...

It's on my eventually list for after they fix more bugs. Half the guys I know from MW:O are playing it non-stop.

Nice to know some people are able to actually play the campaign. Every time a try starting a new campaign it freezes at the black loading screen before crashing. None of the advice I've found online has helped, either.

Hope Harebrained Studios patches these issues soon before the backlash grows further.

4848443
Not yet, still haven't gotten back to it; WoW snuck in again.
4848447
Hope it won't disappoint.
4848461
At least you didn't lose a pristine 'Mech to an AC/20 headshotting it. Stupid freakin' Hunchback.
4848472
Fortunately you tend to acquire more as the missions go on.
4848483
Sorry to hear that; hopefully they'll actually work on smoothing out the bugs.
4848484
Yeah, I kinda noticed a few political things, as well. Fortunately they're easily ignored.
I was hoping for some Star League tech at least. Who doesn't want a Gauss Rifle? I'll tell you who: dirty commies. :trollestia:
4848562
I think their difficulty curve is a bit sharp, yeah.
4848573
That intro is beautiful, agreed.
4848586
4848588
Hopefully those wankers will get on fixing the bugs soon. Otherwise they're going to piss off a lot of people.

4848417
Hey, I'm waiting patiently over here as well :rainbowlaugh:! I stuck with your crossover this long, and I'm willing to be wait for the eventual payoff. Just kind of hoping it happens before I qualify for Social Security though...

BT is on my wishlist right now, but between launch bugs and potato laptop, it'll have to stay there for long days yet. But I'm going to get my fix of 'Mech-on-'Mech action eventually. Might have to dust off MechCommander and the sequel, give them a good, hard flogging once more if the urge to command a legion of giant stompy tanks grows too much to resist.

4848779
I want to finish it before then, too. I want to write other things wothout the guilt, after all.

4848717
About weapons, just discovered 30 hours into the game that (spoilers) the campaign will reward you with a SLDF 90t Highlander equipped with a Gauss Rifle after a specific mission. The gun is not as powerful as I would have hoped, but decent all round.

4848886
Huh, I saw a Highlander mentioned in the Skirmish section (didn't try it yet) but it was the 3025 version with an AC/10. Guess I'd better start playing again. ;)

4848472

Hey now, the Blackjack is surprisingly decent in the game, since the AC2's are basically long range medium lasers.

D48

...Ah crap, I completely forgot that was in the works. I'll have to get it as soon as I have more free time again.

4848915
Meh, I just have bad memories about that thing back when I was actively playing BattleTech... Plus it is ugly compared to a Centurion or Hunchback.(Yeah I know, thats just me...)

Heh, now I can only hope that I won’t draw that thing in june during the tournament at NordCOn... then again, it is more usefull in mixed terrain than the Hunchie or the horror draw for anyone: the Urbie....

So what's your recommendation?

4848893
4848952
I want to play this SO bad! Even if the lore is a bit flawed.

D48

4880342
Yeah, FASAnomics is...interesting...but once you get past that it's awesome. I have the game now and have been playing it basically whenever I can. There are a few minor issues like a lack of pre-battle intel you really should have and an annoyingly unfriendly salvage system which made getting my first real heavy a pain, but all in all I'm loving it.

4849030
The Urbie's really not as bad as it looks because it's armor and firepower are reasonably well balanced. Just think of it as a miniature assault 'Mech rather than than a light and you'll find it can deliver solid performance. I have a later period mod I really like which swaps to a LGR for extreme range, and a lance of them wind up serving as a decent approximation for an assault 'Mech, especially if you are playing a militia force which can't afford an Awesome.

4880464
Well for the Pc game, it may be good. But I was talking about the TT, really, not the best Mech you can get, esp paired against everything else, like a Warhammer or Atlas...

D48

4880488
Honestly, I've yet to see it in the PC game so I'm talking from the TT perspective too. It works great as part of a team so long as you treat it right and don't expect it to take on an Atlas all alone. Sure you'll probably loose some in a serious fight, but they can get a lot of work done in the process. The stock version is fairly solid in the 3025 environment since it's hard to work over a combined force without getting in range of its gun and it can take a decent amount of abuse in that context, and while the range becomes a serious liability in later eras, you can always break out a variant like my LGR Urbie below to overcome that with its 25 hex range. It won't wreck anyone on its own, but at only 576 BV (or about 1.5 million C-Bills if you buy into the FASAnomics) it's a cheap way to add more firepower to a formation and is tough enough to be a solid investment.

Ok that little one would have been nice to have.
Well not possible witch Tech2 and timeline only up to the 3025s... But hey, it was a open for all tournament, soo yes, everyone wanted to get the fast one from the urbie.(still managed to survive in that thing for 13 rounds.)

D48

4880820
Oh, yeah. If you're in a tournament where you only get one 'Mech rather than a BV-blanaced force, the Urbie is probably not the best idea. You might be able to make it work if you are only up against other 3025 lights because the punch of the cannon will usually be more than they can deal with and they'll have trouble working you over, but against anything more dangerous it's a joke on its own.

That said, you can always go all in on shenanigans with something like the Urbie (or Charger, or Firemoth H) if you're willing to accept that you're going to loose up front, but that's not exactly a ringing endorsement of the design in that context.

4880688
If you are talking about the Urbie in BATTLETECH, its actually in the game but you need to buy the parts (dont ask me where).

Its slow speed breaks AI pathfinding so it wont appear as an enemy but the wiki confirms that its in there

D48

That post was actually talking about the tabletop game, but I did see a part on sale once in the new computer game so it's definitely in there. I really wish I could set it as one of my starting 'Mechs because it's fun and a lot more potent than it looks against lighter opponents, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be possible even with the starter 'Mech swapping in the rougetech mod pack I installed after I beat the vanilla game.

Speaking of which: has anyone attempted the Highlander Burial yet? From what I've found out, it's an achievement in the game.:pinkiehappy:
