Season Eight Episode Reviews: Molt Down

This week is a Spike episode? What a re-”molt”-ing development this is!

Let's look at “Molt Down,” the episode that will surely be perfectly normal and have no long-lasting repercussions on a character's appearance.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Break Up Break Down

I dread going into this week's episode. For today, we discuss matters of the heart. Romance, love, heartbreak, and all that rot. Which means we run right into the most loathsome of all fandom constructs, the kind of thing that destroys friendships and leaves the most brilliant of minds curled up helplessly in a corner, foaming from the mouth:

    SHIPPING.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Grannies Gone Wild · 4:18pm Apr 14th, 2018

Time to review...

No. No, this episodes doesn't get a review. It doesn't deserve one. To review something would be to acknowledge its worth in existing, and this one only exists to exists. In other words, it was dull, boring, and ultimately pointless.

I admit a lot of this is me. I'm just not a fan of "old people are secretly awesome while young ones treat them like infants" stories. I find them not only patronizing, but also...well, I've seen what happens when people do overexert themselves, do things they aren't fit to do anymore, and end up truly broken as a result. It may be my baggage, but it's baggage nonetheless.

The episode is also terrible in how it presents Applejack. Either she knows the grannies are fully capable and is actively screwing with Rainbow Dash, or she's panicking over an old woman she knows could own her flank if properly persuaded.

There are plenty of pretty visuals and callbacks, but...no, this one made me feel completely hollow. Sorry.

Next time...is one of the leaked episodes, meaning I've seen it. I'll have plenty to discuss then. In the meantime, peace.https://www.fimfiction.net/manage/blog-posts

I actually thought it was decently fun. Maybe I'm just not as sick of that kind of story or something. This isn't the first time Applejack's been overprotective of somepony, and in the context of having lost her parents, it makes some sense. And the grannies were pretty fun to watch—even surprisingly saucy at times. Oh well, to each their own. 8/10

So you disagree with the episode about worrying about the elderly gals cutting totally loose, but you also think they made Applejack unreasonable for worrying about that same thing?

Applejack has grown up with Granny Smith and should know better.

There is also the possibility that Rainbow was taking Applejack's instructions too seriously/literal. So I can easily see it being a little of everyone's fault.

Didn’t grannie Smith need a new hip in season one but the family couldn’t afford it? Applejack may be motivated out financial survival to keep grannie from getting crazy.
