Hi Everyone,

Here are the release notes for the R150 update!

MPQ 150!

  • Discover even more of the Marvel Universe's exciting characters, iconic locations, and unique items with the brand new Supports feature!

What's Changed:

  • Introducing Supports!

    • Now your Marvel heroes and villains can use Supports to make them even stronger! Equip your characters with Supports for increased stats and new powers.
    • Supports are places, people, vehicles, gear… anything that helps make a Marvel hero or villain who they are. They’re collectible, durable items that you equip to characters.
    • Perks give bonuses and extra powers to the characters who equip them. Each rank that a Support gains, an additional Perk unlocks.
    • Find out more about how Supports can add further variety and power to your characters by checking out our Supports FAQ page
  • Known Supports Issues

    • The Avengers Tower synergy Perk fires whenever anyone on the team fires a power - it should be firing only when Iron Man fires a power. Hotfixed for later this week.
    • The Quinjet’s Rank 1 Perk was significantly overpowered at high levels. Top end Strike tile strength reduced from 1647 to 276. Hotfixed for later this week.
    • Thanos (The Mad Titan)’s Infinite Power does not prevent tile destruction or modification by Support Perks at the moment. That’ll be fixed in R151.
    • Support Perks that increase maximum health heal characters when a battle finishes, and they show a healing animation on the health bar at the start of battle. That’ll be fixed in R151.
    • Archangel (Classic)’s power Aerial Superiority doesn’t prevent AP generation by Support Perks at the moment. That’ll be fixed in R151.
    • When The Hulk (Bruce Banner) transforms due to The Other Guy, Supports attached to The Hulk won’t work for the remainder of the battle.
    • Countdown tiles created by Supports don’t go away when the character they’re equipped to is downed. That applies to The Milano and the Chimichanga synergy Perks.
    • The Destroyer Gun’s synergy Perk still fires when Agent Coulson is stunned.
    • The Support Store is only visible if you have Support tokens, and it says “Get Your Covers!”.
    • In the PC layout, the Red Iso-8 display overlaps other UI elements on the Supports inventory when you have 10,000 or more Red Iso-8.
    • It’s not clear from your roster which characters have Supports equipped.

...it's been less than three hours.

The update has yet to reach me, and I suspect this is true for everyone playing on a Kindle: it's probably going platform-by-platform, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Amazon group was last. So by the time I get it, there should be a whole new collection of fun and exciting bugs to deal with!

*sigh*

Current definition of app quality control: "We've got the crashes down to eight out of eleven load attempts. We can get the rest on the next patch."

They can make an AI GP, an AI lawyer and an AI vehicle for quieter areas, but they cant create an AI for the extremely focused, limired and restricted enviroment thats programming or checking?

Or they dont want to because then any fool could gurentee a bugless grade A release for only a few hours sleeping by a running profiler?

this made me think of a an anecdote on "the daily wtf": someone working on a mobile game, it might have been Pokemon Go, noticed that the program was checking the mobile's online GPS data once PER SECOND but doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with that data,...

Reads like something I'd get back from QA. Well, it actually reads like several rounds of things I'd get back from QA; they tend to stop everything the moment they find a single issue.

My point is that end users shouldn't be seeing this sort of thing. Even if I am tickled by the idea of empowering Thanos with a chimichanga. (Free Infinity Gem with every order!)

Do you really want a program that can make better programs? CelestAI is one of the better potential outcomes there.

Even if I am tickled by the idea of empowering Thanos with a chimichanga.

Just putting standard trios together could make for some extremely strange bedfellows. I've had Required Character nodes which enforced team-ups along the lines of "And today, Victor Von Doom will be hanging out with his best friends, Jean Grey and Steve Rogers." And now I'm expected to send Wilson Fisk into battle while he's equipped with Avengers Tower, which probably says something about Manhattan real estate. I don't even want to know why Shannon Carter is standing next to Daken.

However, I'm assured that having Hydra agents accompany Steve makes perfect sense.

YES.

Roll on the robot overlords, I say, at this point; they cannot possibly do a worse job than humans at ruling the world EVEN IF they choose to wipe humanity out.

Frankly, at this point, I would trust the Microsoft frigging Paperclip to do a more credible job of ruling the world than humans.

(And humanity should consider itself lucky if it gets that option, because when I eventually accrue enough power to do it myself (which may not be within your lifetimes, sadly), as a necromancer of, at that point, arbitarily high power, I would be able to be not that merciful.

Yes, I have had more tedium to deal with than usual today, having to deal with HMRC and other stuff I heard on the news I won't go it, since Estee's blog on Marvel Pizzle Quest is not the place for me to go off on one on that subject.)

Just a stray thought:

The single strangest character absence on the MPQ roster may be Red Skull. And it will never be fixed, because no matter how long he's been around, regardless of his importance to company and character history... the development team is very understandably not going to be comfortable with telling the player base "Open tokens for your chance to recruit a five-star Nazi!"

As a playable character, he will never be available. And I really do understand that. I wouldn't be comfortable with opening a roster slot for him, and playing the maniac is out of the question.

But could we at least get the chance to whale on him (preferably with Max) in a boss battle?

I'm just expecting my phone to finally burst into flames upon opening this app now. Why would they release this so undone? Someone must be pushing them to release new content earlier than they should.

The ?good? news is that you can't use Supports in PvP events yet. It may sound like a small thing, but it does mean the current level of breakage is limited to You Vs. Storyline instead of You Vs. Player Who Just Figured Out How To Get Several Thousand In Bonus Damage Per Hit. Did you see the '...oops' number on the Quinjet?

But the update has yet to reach my platform, so all I can do is wait for the stupidity to reach my time zone. According to the forums, if you have any three-star characters (or higher), you'll be given some Supports to start with. After that... let the pain begin. And also the clamoring of people asking for their favorites to be added, which will be most of the future pain.

I vote for the old flying bathtub.

You can formally prove that it's impossible to make a program that determines if another program is error-free (it's a halting problem variant).

4837644
Ouch hadn't even thought of that. That would be pretty lousy. Make PvP even worse and broken than it already is.
I just checked and can't find them anywhere on my game so I guess I'm in that boat too, thankfully.

Using classic logic. Yes.

A female researcher in the 90s prooved you could solve the classical halting problem using a neural net, and you can make a neural net using classical logic. So the definition of the halting problem was redifined to be undefineable.

Especially given it was demonstrated one way of starting soving the halting problem was to start testing All the programs to see which halted or not.

All the 1 bit programs,
All the 2 bit programs.
All the 3 bit programs.

Currently the Solution of the halting problem is a binary fraction over 30 bits accurate.

L4 uses a simplified symbol definition to be able to mathematically proove code. Currently its largest successful process is a microkernal that 40k in size. Many device routines are smaller. Divide and conquor as they say.

Pity everything else is monolithic.

The update just hit the Kindle, and it took me under a minute to find the first bug. According to the article, I'm supposed to access the Supports menu by hitting the appropriate button. It's right next to the Roster toggle.

There is no Supports button.

4837669 Well, that'll cut down on reported bugs.

but they cant create an AI for the extremely focused, limired and restricted enviroment thats programming or checking

For good reason. In order to have an automated tester for a piece of software, you need to write a program that knows exactly how the program you are testing is supposed to work, and can identify when it does not.

This is a more complex problem than writing the original program to begin with. Which means, in turn, that you're more likely to identify problems in the test software than in the original code...

Oh, I have a few more... I've been looking at the forums, and I'm supposed to receive four free starter Supports, some new currency to spend on them (red ISO), and go through a tutorial on how to use all of it. Actually received: an image introducing the new feature, plus a link to an article. The one I linked above in the paste.

So either they're doing this in stages or there ain't no worries 'cause there ain't no feature.

4837615
You mean like a recent story mode about the Dark Avengers being sent to kill Nick Fury? Where the **** Star node was .... Nick Fury. “Hi team, I’m going to beat you so hard, you won’t remember me being here.”

4837637

Why would they release this so undone?

Welcome to the world of PC gaming. Or, now it seems, any sort of "always on-line gaming".

When your product is always on-line you can always just patch bugs later with a "hot fix" or "emergency patch" of whatever the buzzphrase is this hour. This saves you time and money on in-house testing. Why bother paying somewhere in the rang of tens or maybe hundreds of people to test your game and finds all the bugs when you get somewhere in the range of millions or billions to pay you to test it all for you?

Oh, they didn't sign up for an "Open Beta"? Well, we just won't call it a "Beta" now then will we?

4837729
Well, that isn't very nice of them. Kinda makes their game look bad too, but just like pay loot boxes we all just accept it begrudgingly and move on.

If you release a patch and the list of officially known unpatched issues is longer than the list of new features, something's gone wrong.
