Jake and the Dynamo will release on June 1st! · 4:22pm Apr 3rd, 2018

If you're wondering what I've been up to since I disappeared from here:

I now have the contract in hand, so this is the official announcement: the first volume of the Jake and the Dynamo series will release from Superversive Press on June 1st, 2018.

In a future where the last remnants of mankind are under constant assault from monsters, aliens, eldritch abominations, and demons from hell, humanity's only hope for survival lies with a motley collection of super-powered young girls!

Fourteen-year-old Jake Blatowski just wants to live his life and stay as far away as he can from any magical battles, but when a computer glitch erases part of his academic record and sends him back to fifth grade, he unwittingly finds himself the prime target of Earths' greatest enemies, and the only one who can help him stay alive is his sullen and antisocial classmate Dana Volt—who also happens to be the city's most famous warrior, Magical Girl Pretty Dynamo!

Action, romance, slapstick comedy, and really bad puns abound in this freewheeling adventure by D. G. D. Davidson. Comes with a bonus novelette.

And this part is still not definite, but the book will probably also contain previously unpublished illustrations by Roffles Lowell.

EDIT: And as an added note, I should say that I owe a lot to this community. My writing really matured during the time I wrote horsewords, thanks in large part to the encouragement and frank criticism I got from readers.

On a slightly different note, I owe an enormous amount to YA author L. Jagi Lamplighter (author of the Books of Unexpected Enlightenment). She freelances as an editor on the side, and since I originally expected I would have to self-publish Jake and the Dynamo, I sent her a manuscript for improvement. She was so enthusiastic that she pitched it to the editor at Superversive and subsequently stumped for it. Both she and the proofreader tell me the book made them laugh until they cried. I can't thank them enough for their enthusiastic support, and they are the ones responsible for making this happen.

More polished, new subplot, expanded climax, extra chapter, bonus novelette. It's been through several rounds of editing now, including overall editing from L. Jagi Lamplighter, who greatly improved it, and two rounds of proofreading from their proofer. About as polished as novels get these days.

Congrats man! I might try and give it another shot since I know the first version left a bad taste in my mouth.

I am really happy for you even if it didn't gel for me, you're an amazing author and thanks so much for letting us know how great things are going for you.

Awesome. Will you give us a link here when it's published?

This year works out super for me, I'll be able to read it on my Christmas tablet!

Congratulations! That's huge! Please post a link once it goes live; I'll definitely buy a copy.

Fantastic! Echoing all the congratulations and requests for a link when it's on sale.

Livin' the dream!

It's always fantastic to see people use this site as a steping stone, no matter how small or large it is, in an expanded writing career and be semi-successful in their efforts. You have my both my support and my interest! I hope that this will be successful for you, and I'll attempt to get as many people as I can to read this story.

Once again, congratulations! I am sure you are elated with the turnout you've had, and I'm happy for you. :pinkiehappy:

Thanks to you all for offering encouragement. As I'm sure you all know, writing sometimes feels like laboring alone in the dark, so your words mean a lot. I'll certainly post again when the book releases.
