I've Never Wanted to do This

This was an idea that I had while trying, and failing, to finish the most recent Finale chapters of This Changeling Life.

The story is okay, I feel like I wrote the characters well enough for a read, but that finale is kicking me in the teeth. And I’ve already identified the reason.

    I Need to see something

I'm honestly curious about just how many people assume Naruto is going to stomp in the upcoming battles. Now I'm going to put things into perspective.

Now, without going too much into spoiler territory, I'm going to say this: Chrysalis's worst match-up IS indeed Naruto. As it is with Aurelia.

Not a chapter, but I figure anything is better than nothing

So, yeah I have been kind of falling off my writing game and I sincerely apologize for that.

No real excuses, I just haven't had the energy to write before this past week, so I'll leave it at that.

That said, I've been working on it and I'm currently at 7.6k+ words.

    And as proof:

So, I know I haven't been as active as I used to be...4k+ and counting.

    First off, here:

    ...

Moondancer’s head moved in the direction of Naruto’s presence. She could tell it was him so accurately, even though she was sure he wasn’t using his magic.

‘It’s possible that he’s using his chakra instead.’ she surmised before turning her attention back to the group of changelings that barred her path.

    Getting Back Into it

So I've been all over for a while and working some things.

I've been working on this Tournament Game thing in Java the past month or so, and I think it's going over well, all things involved.

I've gone to a few networking events in the past month and have learned and received knowledge that will prove vital to my development.

I Need to see something · 3:08am Mar 30th, 2018

I'm honestly curious about just how many people assume Naruto is going to stomp in the upcoming battles. Now I'm going to put things into perspective.

Now, without going too much into spoiler territory, I'm going to say this: Chrysalis's worst match-up IS indeed Naruto. As it is with Aurelia.

Were it simply Naruto and her alone, first contact, she'd have lost. We see this in the past chapter alone, so I feel that w know, with the advantage of surprise, Naruto wins regardless. Chrysalis's ego makes it too easy.

The second contact is not as easy to scope out.

Naruto vs Aurelia, or Nympha, on the other hand, is far more... complicated for spoiler-y reasons. Just know that capability and character, play a part in those two bits and yes, in that order specifically in relation to the characters.

Know this. NONE of the Queens is going to go down easy, regardless of the certain amount of enemies they are going to be facing. *wink, wink*.

But, back to the question I want to ask: Do you think Naruto is going to curbstomp during this fic?

And I want you guys to really THINK about everything that the story has built up for all those involved and remember the two worlds we are crossing and the characteristics of both.

I'm not really a fan of the current arc of the story, to be honest. There are a number of reasons why: Shining Armor being used like a puppet, Chrysalis dominating all the other changeling queens to fight for her and bringing a huge combined army, various other characters being set up for their individual battles doesn't improve the situation much due to how draw out it is being (and noting that none of the queens will be going down easily only cements how drawn out it will be), and the narrative is quite fragmented to get all these different perspectives at once. I wasn't really drawn in by all the queens being introduced and being pushed into motion, they have as much impact as the mook of the week from my perspective. They just aren't developed enough for me to want to care about them, which makes the drawn out fights where known characters are constantly frustrated frustrating for the reader, too.

That said, I've been reserving judgement to see how things develop going forward. Maybe those other queens will serve an important role to developing things (especially for Naruto), but right now I'm not really seeing it. It kind of felt like there was a bit too much stuff behind the scenes from the timeskip that hasn't been explored properly. Having Naruto meeting the queens in this huge manner feels sort of unfair for both him and them, considering they are the 'same' race.

That's a fair assessment to make, I feel that the reasoning for why you might feel this way is because you're going into this with a different mindset than I am.

I'm not sure if I've made this clear or not but, this is the final arc of this short story of mine. Maybe, some might see it as a copout but I was never planning on this story being that much longer than it currently really is.

Hell, I could have easily ended this story right at the point of Naruto and Derpy actually getting together. The same chapter with the Spike Canon Omake, if you remember. That chapter would have been a fine place to end this story at, but I didn't because I always imagined Naruto against Chrysalis as being the finale for this fic. I mean I think I made that pretty clear in the beginning and even in some fo the more "Recent" blog posts about the "Changelings" chapters blogs.

I'm sorry that this might be disappointing to some of you, or you specifically, but I always imagine the end of the story first before I begin writing one. If I don't the story will have no particular ending, to begin with.

As much as I admire story lengths of fics like that one Naruto/MLP fic written by Kyuubi16, I simply can't see that as being really a good idea. I mean, hell, I'm pretty sure this fic'll be getting close to 180k+ word count by the end of it all. That said, there's just too much build-up to NOT have this final battle actually spread out for a bit. Otherwise, what would be the point of introducing SPike and Dinky's magic, all the character's training by Naruto and so on?

When I look back on it, I think I made the mistake of taking things a bit TOO far, in that I incorporated too many characters in the fic but then I also remember that this fic along is bigger than most normal real-life novels and I find that it's honestly not as bad as it could be.

I'm rambling, what I mean to say is this. I think you feel this way because you and I are entering this arc with two different mindsets.

For you, this seems like a middling thing in the story while for me, this is the END (With an Epilogue of course). This feels like it's being drawn out because it seems like an unusual point to be spending my time on when it is the whole purpose that this story was written towards from my end.

I figured Chrysalis would be like Pein but with a bijuu inside her and that the void in his seal was going to take on whatever's in Chrysalis.

I don't think it's going to be a curb stomp at all. Nearly evenly matched. We haven't even seen the kind of skills Aurelia is capable of yet.

I'm happy that I have people that understand this.

I mostly made this blog post because I got a rather... ignorant review today that I addressed in full through PM but was stuck with the idea that people seem to think it's going to be a curbstomp even though I've gone through extraneous hoops to make that NOT the case.

And the best part, it's basically me just adding Common Sense to the MLP world. OR in this case, Chrysalis and her perceived backstory here.

I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the next chapter. And honestly I also want to see more world building and slice of life stuff. I love the world you've created.
