A JD Review: MLP Season 8 Episodes 1 and 2 - "School Daze Part 1 and 2" · 8:20pm Mar 24th, 2018
Oh, boy, it's good to be back! 
And so we begin another season of MLP, and what a way to start indeed! The basic plot of this two part premiere is that Twilight and co want to create a school to teach the magic of friendship to every creature across Equestria and beyond. Not really the most epic plot, but I can say I was very pleased with how the premiere turned out. Very enjoyable experience.

NON-SPOILER REVIEW
Such a great premiere! I loved everything about it! The continuity to the movie is always appreciated, and it looks like we're even getting some hippogriffs from the movie as well. Silver Streak, was it? She was absolutely adorable. Also, we get a new female dragon named Smolder. Would love to see her and Spike interact. 
Got a griffon whose name escapes me, as well as a yak and a changeling and a pony. So many new characters, but they were a treat to watch.
I also liked the conflict in this premiere, but we can get into that in the spoilers. Which means...

SPOILER REVIEW
Who knew Doctor Strange and the Ministry of Magic from Harry Potter were officially a part of MLP?
Jokes aside, it was awesome to see Maurice LaMarche play a role in MLP. I loved his role as Father from Kids Next Door. I also loved the conflict in this premiere, what with Twilight wanting to keep her School of Friendship afloat by abiding by the EEA's standards. This conflicting with her own ideals created a really interesting story.
The new characters introduced were really awesome. I love how they basically ditched class and made friends on their own with hardly any need of Twilight's or any of the Mane 6's help. Despite being completely different creatures, they were able to become friends, and I can appreciate that. Even when they ran away when the school was closed down, they were still hanging out. And even though everything worked out in the end and Twilight's School of Magic is open once again (thus, opening even more great story possibilities), it would have been pretty sweet to see all out war throughout Equestria against all of these different races. 
But yeah, great premiere.

Eeyup XD, I also love the continuity with the Movie, Storm King being mentioned a few times and the Mane 6 recapping the events of the Movie at the start of the episode, Twilight even mentions Tempest spreading the word about the Storm King's defeat to the places outside of Equestria

It was a pretty interesting season opener. Not my absolute favourite, but still enjoyable to watch.
Though one problem I have with the whole school thing is the mane 6 being teachers. Most of the mane six already have jobs that require their time and effort, so how can ponies like Rarity and Applejack do their jobs, to adventuring, and teach a class? Seems a bit much to do all of those things.

From the episodes summaries I've read, it seems like the Mane Six will still have the majority of the time in the spotlight, so I wouldn't worry about that. At least not this season.
