Introductions · 2:27am Mar 23rd, 2018
Hi,
I guess some introductions are in order. I'm AnchorsAway, I'm a ship officer who has sailed all over the world and who has taken an interest in writing. There can be pretty long stretches of nothing at sea, so writing helps me pass the time. It has been a long journey though. Four years ago I had never written anything creatively, though I would always escape to my imagination during the long days and nights alone on the bridge (the night watch is the best: the moon, and stars unpolluted by any light. I'm a big Princess Luna fan if you couldn't tell).
I took a break from my larger unpublished stories to write a small tale, "Guard Over Me," which I think has finally prepared me to release some of my other stories. I never really intended on releasing any of these, as they were something fun to work on during my off time.
One story in particular I'm planning on publishing soon is the one that I first started on four years ago. It has gone through four rewrites, totaling over 360,000 rewritten words. It is called "Viral" and Part One is nearly done, about 90,000 words. Here is a small synopsis. Brownie point for anybody that can guess the inspiration.
Thirty-eight minutes was all it took. Thirty-eight minutes for Canterlot to fall and a new nation to rise from the ashes of the old world. A nation quarantined, a continent of monsters. As those in the present flee the terrors in the night, one hundred years in the future, First Colony struggles to keep the lights on, and in turn, the monsters at bay. But the batteries are failing, and a strange filly has collapsed at their gates. The Filly from Nowhere, the one who survived, the First and Last and Only, who lived a thousand years, a filly from the Before named Rose Point.
Stay tuned for more soon. I may post the prologue if anybody is interested.
Your friendly sailor,

Fair winds and following seas.
Thanks for sharing your work with us here. Pretty excited to see what you've been cooking up.
Princess Luna is best princess!
And I kind of envy you, to have had the opportunity to see her so unobscured. Must have been glorious.
Anyways, welcome aboard and I look forward to your offerings.

I mostly write serious alternate timelines delving in arcane science and magic technology. Things that would give you that uneasy feeling you experience when you know something is wrong with this world based on the narrative, but your not quite sure what. The Twilight Zone is a big inspiration for many stories. One project, “The Limbo Theorem “, is about halfway done if your looking for those uneasy goosebumps.
I am looking at branching out though. That is where “Guard Over Me” came from; I needed a break from the grim and serious for something more bittersweet than sad.
