A Little Something about Saint Patrick's Day · 12:14am Mar 17th, 2018

Here in the states, and probably many other nations tomorrow is the day we call Saint Patrick’s Day. Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, and has a bit of his mythology surrounding him.

That all said, they don’t call it Saint Patrick’s Day in Ireland. They call the holiday the Feast of Saint Patrick, it’s a holiday where they celebrate his life on the anniversary of his death. So yeah, the holiday isn’t his birthday but the day he died. Let that all sink in for a moment.

And what a wake to celebrate his life. :rainbowwild:

Yeah, it's kind of like how some Catholics don't really celebrate Saint Valentine's Day, because it's about the day Saint Valentine was tied to a tree and riddled with arrows.

Don’t forget beheaded afterward. Also, the practice most of us in the western world see on the day is an adaption from the very Roman holiday he was trying to stop.

The reason I specified is simple, look Japanese Valentines’ Day practices and White Day.

I am well aware of what happened to Saint Valentine. I'm a Catholic with strong Welsh-Irish heritage.

And, yeah, I get why you specified. I'm well aware of those as well, but that comes as a by-product of enjoying Slice of Life Comedy anime, like Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (Kobayashi-san chi no Maid Dragon).
I actually find it neat how a country with no real Christian heritage managed to adopt the Christian (Pagan) Holiday of Christmas so easily, by primarily focusing on the 'family and loved ones' aspect.

Japan’s really good at that. Almost every practice or innovation we know Japan practices today came from somewhere else. The Japanese seem to have an instinctual ability to take introduced stuff and and take it to its greatest extreme.
