My flash drive was stolen. · 12:04am Mar 15th, 2018

I stole it back from the guy who took it, but turns out they formatted the drive to put a pirated copy of Halo on it, overwriting around a quarter of the several hundred files I had on the drive. While nearly all of the files were archived assignments, I often use them as reference for future assignments or to study from for tests and quizzes.

I had several gigs of data on the drive, and some douchebag decided that freakin' Halo was more important than the moral issue of stealing someone's property and destroying years of work.

At least I know how to redo whatever got corrupted after I recovered the files. But still. Screw that guy.

Report him for theft and attempted piracy

I have no idea who it was. I lost my flash drive in first period and only realized it was missing in 3rd period. By the time I came back, the flash drive and the person who took it were gone. That was two days ago.

I got lucky when the person who stole it left it plugged into a logged-out school computer. I don't know who it was that took it, but they were obviously addicted to Halo to the point where they'd steal from others just to play it.

Does the school have cameras?

4817090
The only cameras I know of are in the halls, not the classrooms.

Halo isn't even good anymore, was it Halo 1 or 2?

The file was called "Halo CE", which I'm guessing is short for Combat Evolved. I don't really play anything past Angry Birds or Minecraft though, so I don't have a very clear idea.

And I know that the person who stole the drive did it as a conscious decision, as well. I reported the missing drive to the main office and they made an announcement to return the drive to the front desks, but nothing ever showed up until I saw the drive sticking out of one of the school computers.

Halo CE sucked, not as much as 4 or 5, but it still sucks

And apparently incredibly popular at my high school. This isn't the first time I've seen Halo:CE running on a school computer. Sometimes I overhear students talking about smuggling in pirated versions on discs or flash drives to play on school computers. Apparently they don't require installation or extra admin permissions to run, or at least to run the pirated versions.

Yeah, I've played a pirated thing of Halo CE, and it's popularity is from the fact that it is the only Halo that doesn't require admin permission to play on public computers

That explains it.

Ah, so we're placing a curse on the guy now, eh? Alrighty then.

I've been thinking of loading up a dummy flash drive with viruses and leaving it exactly where my flash drive was stolen from, but that would probably end up infecting the school's network.

Anyways, I stole it back when they left the flash drive unattended, so all's fine, I guess.

Or I could just go full-out and disguise a USB-killer as a normal flash drive. :P

Well atleast you got it back right now theres someone stealing USBs from people and putting porn on it and he must be a pretty good hacker because he logs into peoples accounts and opens it then they get in trouble from teachers i havent brought my USB in for a month because of it

I was joking about the USB killer. But I have seen quite a few people kill the PCs at school by stuffing various objects into USB ports and audio jacks.
