Stephen Hawking · 3:14pm Mar 14th, 2018
Today, I stand here mourning the loss of Stephen Hawking, one of the greatest scientific minds of all time, and one of my personal idols. He was not only absolutely brilliant, but also loved humor, wrote children’s novels, and was generally a wonderful human being. When he was only a few years older than I am, he was diagnosed with the condition that would later reduce his movement until he was unable to move all but a cheek muscle. He was predicted to have only a few years left to live. Despite this, not only did he live to the elderly age of 76, it also did not hamper his progress in the field of science. One of the most personally important facets of his scientific research was his willingness to be wrong. It is often said that science progresses on every death, due to older scientists refusing to let go of wrong theories with evidence against them. Stephen Hawking stood in direct opposition to this. On more than one occasion, Hawking proved a theory false and proposed a new one, only to later prove the theory of his own design wrong in favor of a new one. This ability to not only accept being wrong, but to prove yourself wrong, is an ability I highly respect, as I struggle with this myself on a daily basis. Stephen Hawking has been and always will be an inspirational figure to me, and I will heavily mourn the world’s loss. But take heart- The great scientists of the future stand among us today, learning from the past, still working to improve and discover the world around us. Stephen Hawking may be dead, but his spirit lives on in the science he has left behind. He will be remembered.
Yes, he WILL be remembered. One of the people I follow on Deviantart posted a little post last night about Hawking and how Hawking was an inspiration to them.
