IRL Writing Progress! · 4:43am Mar 13th, 2018
I've been on a huge Actress Square slump for a while, wondering if I was making the book exciting enough, stalled at Chapter Nine, and then tonight...all that changed. I just sat down to work on it, and suddenly, I actually finished the chapter! It may not be the perfect story or the perfect draft, but I kinda sat down with myself and said that it doesn't necessarily have to be. All it has to do is outline my thoughts as best I can, and everything else can always be changed.
So now, 84 pages into my first IRL project, and I'm actually not feeling too bad. I don't think it'll take a month to finish a chapter like last time, and I feel like I'm finally over the beginning-of-the-story slump. (For those wondering, it isn't as bad for stories like Paging Doctor Sparkle, where it's kinda built around jokes and character interactions, but for stuff like IYGALL and Actress Square, it's a motivation-killer. So if it's taking you a really long time to update when you've just started a series, don't worry: it's not just you!)
Anyway, I'm going to try to get a couple new Light Pollutions out this week and next, since it's Spring Break for most people and I really want to get it done before leaping into If You Have a Little Hope. And I'll tell you now, my Actress Square motivation's probably as high as it is because it's Chevalier time. Your average aloof purple magical girl who doesn't join the team right away, mixed with a trash-talking tough-as-nails high school girl, mixed with a film history nerd, and you've got the multilayered and amazing Actress Chevalier. Boy, I'm going to love writing her so much.
(She's one of those characters I didn't realize I loved that much until I realized I was going to start writing her. It's a little like how, I didn't really know I liked Thorax as much as I did until I found out he was going to be a king and I thought, "yes, my son's royalty!" Characters like that are always interesting.)
So anyway, thanks for putting up with my random writer rant and I hope your projects go just as well for you!
I've been having some slumpy times too. Since I'm in the middle of *three* 100k+ word stories and I don't publish until they're done, it may be until fall before one of them makes it out. So I'm getting an arc on Letters out in April to hold me over, and enjoying a new season coming up.

Good luck to you on your projects! I'm pulling for you.
It is good to know you are doing well on your IRL project! Certainly better then the free time lock down I'm suffering from at the moment. Anywho, good luck on your works and my the writers block never find you!
