The Element of Redemption/Forgiveness Theory! (Spoiler Alert for MLP season 7) · 4:37am Mar 6th, 2018
I was thinking about the Tree of Harmony and, we know that Sunset is, most likely, the 7th element. The question is, where did it come from and when was it created. Then, I began thinking about Starswirl and the Pillars and how they created the Tree of Harmony to begin with. The answer, lies with the Pony of Shadows, AKA Stygian.
Warning, I have to go into a bit of background first.
Stygian was the 6 Pillars' friend, ally and strategist. However, one day he had taken the Pillars' artifacts in order to make copies of then to assist them in battle. Unfortunately, they thought he was jealous of them and was trying to steal their power. So, instead of talking to Stygian about it and giving him the benefit of the doubt, they cast him out of their circle. This lead Stygian to a lonely, bitter darkness and he became the Pony of Shadows. When they initially banished him, the six Pillars planted to tree of harmony in order to battle against any threat in their absence.
Fast forward a thousand years, we find that the elements of the tree of harmony are also the elements of friendship. Twilight Sparkle then releases the Pillars and the Pony Of Shadows. The Mane Six were then told by their predecessors that the Pony of Shadows used to be their former friend Stygian. In their final battle, they realized what Stygian's true purpose was and his friends held only regret for their actions and, reaches out to him in forgiveness.
Starswirl's answer to everything seemed to be banishment and never seemed to WANT to listen, but Twilight taught him a conversation can be just the power you need.
Since the Tree of Harmony was born in friendship, it is possible, that it manifested a seventh element because, Stygian was likely in their thoughts when leaving behind the seed. Magic in Equestria, particularity the tree of harmony, seems to know just what needs to be done. It;s possible that it has a mind of it's own and, likely realized that forgiveness/redemption is the final key to true harmony. Working together with true friends is one thing but being able to under stand and forgive others is another. It takes even more strength to ALLOW yourself to be forgiven.
It's possible, without knowing it, Stygian became this element, a pillar and is the predecessor for the 7th element and could only reveal itself to someone who has truly earned it .
Look at Sunset Shimmer, like Stygian, she fell from grace, became a monster, attempted to do unspeakable things, then, someone picked her back up, forgave her and, eventually, forgave herself, earning her her ears and tail.
