There's a park near me that I sometimes go to, with a canal running right through the middle of it. Recently I was wandering through a part of it I don't go to much, far off in a little corner. There the canal turns and that opens up a lovely vista where you can see straight down it and all the land around it.

Is anyone interested in listening to me sling headcanons at them? No? Good, get ready for 'em.

Celestia and Luna are pretty obviously immortal (or something close to it), but what about Twilight, and Cadence, and now Flurry? My take on it is that alicorns are not actually immortal. At least, not naturally. It takes a little something extra to be like Celestia and Luna. Alicorns are closer: if a "normal" pony tried what I have in mind, well, that wouldn't work out too well. But you definitely don't get it for free with your wings.
