And now, Deep Thoughts, by GMOH.
When I was a boy, my dad took me aside and said, "Son, remember, when you find that special 2D someone that makes your heart a-flutter, that's your waifu. Be sure to love and cherish her, but never have more than one waifu, or it'll ruin your laifu."
Later that year he disappeared under mysterious circumstances at a maid cafe in Akihabara, but I never forgot his sage advice.
Eventually I grew up and found my waifu, and things were great for many years. But over the last few days, my heart's been a-flutter over someone new, and it's caused me a good deal of distress.
I know I shouldn't have two waifus; Dad's advice was clear and his wisdom true. But this new waifu happens to be an alternate reality version of my old waifu, so... does it count, or not?
I've spoken with a variety of faith leaders about this subject, as well as consulted the bottom of various bottles, but the answer still eludes me and my heart remains troubled.
Basically, I think I'm in love with a cow.
...I miss you, dad.
GET THIS MAN A HEALTHY DOSE OF MORE WAIFU.
You can't ride two pony's with one behind, Sugarcube. You'll just have to pick one or watch yourself burn out into oblivion.
Chose well. Think long, think wrong.
I'm most likely not much help here.
but herds tho
it seems you've already made your choice

Damn, the truth in that observation cuts deep.
I believe polyamory, and indeed your own stories, show that more than one waifu is a totally acceptable outcome.
Why haven't we seen any Them's Fightin Herds and FiM crossovers on this site yet?

Hey, you're still around! Doing well, I hope?

Story mode's not out yet, so maybe people are holding back because of that. Or they're too busy playing the game which is admittedly pretty addictive.

Oh yes, still here, even if just lurking in the background. Life and work has consumed everything for a long while. I'm biding my time for a chance to finally write again, which I mean, no matter how many times I go on about it and then get derailed. Feel free to drop me line, I'm always up for a good chat, and it distracts from staring at emails and paperwork.
Ahh yes the eternal question that has plagued the minds of many a great man and woman. I myself, have fallen for many a waifu, Rarity and Oleander for example if I compare my situation with yours. Luckily, a solution was created long, long ago. As we expand our knowledge of stories told, and the characters within them, we subconsciously create a space in our mind for our favorites. You could think of this as your internal harem. A place where all your waifus can get along with one another without any world ending consequences. A place where they can focus on the one thing that matters, loving you as much as you love them.
So my advice to you, my friend, is to look deep within yourself, find your inner harem, and never let go... good luck sir, and may your waifus be there for you in the darkest of times.
(Sorry I couldn't help myself)

Man, I know the feeling. I can't find a minute to write unless I plan for it well in advance, which I'm definitely doing. Just another month till my vacation, wooo!

Don't be sorry, I like this idea! These characters all exist in our imaginations anyway, so there really should be no limits to what you can envision.
