EQG: Forgotten Friendship · 6:57pm Feb 25th, 2018
Warning, here there be spoilers... maybe.
Any how, what is there to say? Surprisingly good. Sure, I've a couple nitpicks here and there, but over all, damn, I'm impressed. I really worried that with the length it wouldn't be all that good, that the story would drag in places, but it all works. It was fun seeing Sunset look at who she'd been, and then fight to keep what she had. Twilight geeking out about the secret library (why'd they call it the forbidden archives, hasn't she been there?) was fun, but you'd think that as a princess she'd know about it (nitpick 1). Of course there had to be a deadline, why wouldn't there be? And exactly when did Sunset turn the camera on or writer herself a note?(nitpick 2). Oh, and let's not forget that apparently somehow Wallflower can read Equestrian, or that the EQG universe uses the same language(nitpick 3).Still, it was fun, and it was great seeing Trixie and her becoming friends.
Largest nitpick I have is at the end when Sunset delivers the yearbook, and it's not that she has to deliver it to a member of the committee, nor that said member isn't aware of a page devoted to her or her club, it's just that all we see is the Rainbooms helping her with the garden. I would've expected something like Applejack and another student(s) or her brother working on a proper entrance (wooden arch with a sign maybe?), while Wallflower is directing the new members of the gardening club as they improve the garden. That and not all of the Rainbooms being members, Applejack and Fluttershy are obvious members, not sure about the others. It's not to say that the entire group wouldn't be hanging around, just not that they'd all join.
Still, it's a really solid job, and considering Hasbro's animosity towards crossing EQG and FiM, so much so that Sunset didn't appear in the movie even though it'd've made sense, I was surprised by the length of Sunset's visit to Equestria, and the fact that she finally made peace with Celestia.
