WELP.
Been busy. Ish. But I've got about a half hour of downtime (not to mention I'm a little jacked up on cheap coffee) before I have to go do OTHER stuff ... and so I'm writing a blog post. Yay?
Ideally, I'd use this little window of time to write something more substantial than just random musing, but ... I haven't been writing, pony or otherwise, for the last week or so. I'm a slacker.
I think part of it is I'm putting too much pressure on myself-- like, my sister tells me all the time "You should write more!" I ... haven't told her that the majority of my stuff I've written for the last five years has been magic horse fanfiction (albeit good magic horse fanfiction, which ... may be something of a low bar to judge by the Featured Box, but I digress).
And so, whenever I start writing some original thing (and invariably peter out sometime before 20,000 words or so), I just have this nay-saying voice at the back of my head going "nobody will ever want to read this, much less buy it" and, uh, yeah. Like, I can write pony for fun, but I get all worked up about writing original fiction that'll sell, or something. Hmm.
Aaaaaanyway. Back on the pony side of things, I had a random idea for a fanfic the other day: A Dumas pastiche, naturally called The Three Wonderbolts. Title like that nearly writes itself. I'm torn, however, in the casting. On the one hand you could have Dash'artangan going to Canterlot, where she'd fall in with Spitfire and Soarin or someone else ... OR, just make Dash the Porthos analogue (Rainbowthos?) and center the story on D'Applejack, who's a little better at the 'country bumpkin' thing. Plus, that way, D'Applejack can fall in with M'Rarity de Winter, and therefore be Rarijacky as all hell, and therefore at least come close to being canon. Or something.
Oh, and I'll have to work in a joke about Fluttershy being disappointed when she finds out Cardinal Discord is not an actual cardinal (the bird, not the baseball player).
... huh. This ... might have some legs. And I miiiight find a way to make it fit in the kinda-sorta continuity with my other stories.
Then again, just one series of swashbuckling pony pastiches may be enough for now.
For the record, I'd happily check out your original fiction. Though this idea does sound intriguing.
A swashbuckling pony pastiche with Dumas sounds very cool indeed. Go for it, man!
Sounds awesome!
Oh, and BTW:

You got 752 people who love reading what you write. There are a fair amount of authors on this site I have followed to Amazon and picked up their books, I'm sure you have the talent to pull it off.
Have you considered writing an anthology of short stories, if your interest keeps petering off after 20K words?

Pinkie-thos is entirely too spot on.

Oh yeah! I would swap Applejack and Twilight, though. AJ is perfect for D'Applejack!
