Should I break your heart with my story?

As a writer of "The Lives Among The Equines" I want to know your opinions on whether or not I should a new story a Tragedy. So here's the deal, you can choose which of these two options, should I:

    1) Utterly ripping the reader's heart to shreds, then throwing the pieces to the wind
    2) Breaking their hearts, only to heal it back with an uplifting ending

My problems with the view counter: alternative view for views · 9:50pm Feb 21st, 2018

6/10:applejackunsure:
Seriously, has anyone checked to make sure the view mechanics are inflatable proof? It's counts anything that views it unless they're refreshing the page, going to the next chapter, book mark it, or continuing when using another tab. That seems reasonable at first until you realize that it has two major loophole and one minor one.

It all stems from the main problem, it counts anyone viewing it whether published or unpublished!:fluttershbad:

There's three flaws with this feature. One minor and two major.

Minor: Any person whether login or not can give a fanfic as many views even on accident. That means that a fanfic could easily get an unfair advantage in popularity. However, you could say that this protects the anonymity of the user, but why let people already logged in give the same chapter a view over and over again without a second thought? The author might either be the deceived or the deceiver of the system. This may be just me being against the anonymous view counters in general after all, but the nex flaw is just absolutely bogus.

Major 1: Get this, if you're not an author who pays an ounce of attention to their view, you'll notice that your own fanfiction literally counts your own views with your own? WTF is that there for? This should be basic view counter 101, don't count the creator! Not only does this lazy blunder make it super easy to inflate view, it made my days as a beginning author a bit more difficult and annoying. In order to keep track of how many real views are there from my own, I have to constantly subtract the views I've accidentally given from the total of views. What's embarrassingly stupid is that I didn't realize it until it was too late, and even then I still have to edit a lot of crap. Luckily, the fanfic was crap so I didn't care much, but still, In order for something to completely view free from the gecko, I have to either write it in another document and copy and paste and edit in the first try, or even less likely do the story right from the first try with some edit without logging out. It's much easier just to write it in the account but I have to be the "Good guy" and try to get the few views possible.

This first flaw makes the next one so annoying

Major 2: Before you could even publish the fanfic, you could end up with hundred's of view on a chapter just by going back to the story. When you haven't edited it much, you could to go back again or again and inflate this on accident. Because of this, authors could have a false sense of pride or an extra mile or two just to avoid the view, this makes it incredibly easy for any author and their editors to inflate their views without even trying. I have a question, why not automatically give the unpublished chapters no views at all? Who in the world would need to know how many times they, the editors, and the prereaders viewed their fic? :twilightangry2: It's just plain annoying.

Yes, to some this isn't a big deal, but to people who care about their actual views, it just seems that there isn't enough effort towards the importance of the view counter. Isn't popularity suppose to be based off their existence?

Sorry to chastise the website programming; It's a really good website and this doesn't make it any worst, but as an author who wants to appeal to people I care deeply about viewers and the quality of the content for my future fanfiction.

That is all:twilightblush:
