    Darkening Summary

As I promised, here is a brief summary of The Darkening for anyone who would like to continue the story but would rather not spend the time reading the 69k word story again. Now if you haven't read the story, then please don't read this summary, it is going to cover all of the plot points very quickly, and you will get nothing from it but confusion and whiplash. You can catch the summary just

    The Darkening is Back!

I told you it wasn't dead! Yeah, I saw it when those of you placed it in your "dead" and "graveyard" bookshelves, and I gotta say, each one of those hurt my heart a bit, but I get it. I haven't updated the story since April 2019!

The Darkening isn't Dead, I Swear!

So, I know I haven't really done anything here in nearly two years, but I just wanted to tell anyone who may still care that I haven't given up on The Darkening yet. The truth is, I've been in a bit of a funk since before posting chapter 7. My depression came back, harder than it has in over a decade, and with it came the old feelings of failure. Every time I sat down to write, this little

    The Darkening: Chapter 7

Finally, it's done! This chapter gave me a lot of grief. I wrote the Twilight section over a dozen times easily, and honestly, I nearly gave up at one point. But I didn't, and thanks to a comment from my newer pre-reader, Zodiacspear, it turned out even better than I'd hoped. So look for chapter 7 to be posted next Wednesday around

    The Darkening: Chapter 6

Chapter 6 is ready to go and will be posted next Wednesday. Chapter 7 has really given me a lot of trouble, but I think I've finally just about worked it out, and I'm hoping the next portion of it will come along much quicker. Anyway, I hope you all had a wonderful time over the holidays, and I also hope you'll look forward to chapter 6 after checking out the excerpt after the page break.

So, I picked up Monster Hunter World and absolutely love it. I loved it so much in fact that I haven't gotten any writing done at all for like the last three weeks. But now I've begrudgingly pulled myself away from the game and am ready to get back to work on The Darkening, and thought I'd give you guys an update. Before Monster Hunter released, I had just finished chapter 5, which means it is time to publish chapter 3, but as I was giving it one final look over, I realized that a few of the scenes are kinda lackluster (one particular paragraph made me physically cringe when I read it). So I'm going to focus on fixing these problems and hopefully I'll have the chapter ready to go in about a week or so. Sorry about the delay, blame that stupid awesome game!:twilightsheepish:

You know, all this did was convince me I need to be playing this game, to distract me from writing.

Pulling me down with you.

Shame! Shame!:ajsleepy:

We shall fall from grace together!

It’s all that stupid awesome game’s fault! :raritywink:

It’s Monster Hunter, it’s to be expected. :raritywink:

It's my first Monster Hunter. I remember when it came out on PS2 and I almost got it. Now, I really wish I had. I've gone years missing out on a superb series. Even my girls love it.

Been playing since Tri on the Wii, been in love with it ever since. Even my niece got into it and we play together often. It really is a great series.

That's awesome that you can play with your niece. I'm trying really hard to get my brother to try it, but he's resisting.

I actually have a second character that I only play with my 8 year old. She made the character and chose my weapon, and we're going through it together. I'm not allowed to kill anything as this character, however. She says all the monsters are too cool and beautiful to kill, so she makes me capture them all. She's gonna be disappointed when I reach the Elder Dragons.:scootangel:

Are you playing World?

4799959
Sadly, no. I don’t own a PS4 or XB1 yet, but World is on my list to buy when I do. When that time comes, we’ll have to hunt (or capture if the 8yearold is watching) together.

Also, enjoy the murder pickle (Deviljho) when he’s released. You’re gonna love him. >:)

Don’t know how I tagged my own message, but yeah. What I said below. :twilightblush:

I'm on PS4 so if you wanna hunt together, that's what you'll have to get. I just wanna ask a fan of the series how this one compares. I've read a lot of reviews that say it's the best one, but I want the opinion of an actual long-term fan.

Oh yes, I've heard many tales of this pickle. I really look forward to testing my dual blades on him.:rainbowdetermined2:

Heh, to be fair, I’ve had some grumbles at the new entry. The use of items has changed, no auto flexing when using potions. It was a... thing that generated a lot of humor. Of course, then potions healed instantly rather then gradually. Also, we used paintballs to track monsters rather than the glowing flies. But this all comes from an older fan of the series.

I had two gripes with World: the numbers and the voice of the feylines/palicos. Knowing how much I damaged the monster was never important and the popping numbers are a bit of an eyesore. Second, the feyline voice was originally the creators own Siamese cat that he recorded for the game. Those sounds and the feylines were no end of humor for me and my niece. I’ll never forget the time I was playing lance with an armor that gave the impression you had a torch lit. When you had a torch, all of the Wild feylines would start dancing around you. Silly as that was, I lost it when an Aganator entered the area and shot his fire laser at me. I blocked it but every feyline got blasted away. I had to pause the game because I was laughing so hard.

Even with that, I still intend to get World and enjoy Monster Hunter. One day.

I think it's pretty cool how the scout flies work. They level with each monster separately, and if you go awhile without hunting the monster, you'll have to level them back up again.

I guess I can see how the numbers would bother older fans, but I like that their color indicates if you're hitting the monster's weak spots or armored spots.

Oh, those poor feylines!:rainbowlaugh:
