Dead Rising 3 · 11:10pm Feb 14th, 2018
So after the massive disappointment that was DR2, I had 3 as well and so I fired it up. It was...
So, so, so much worse.
Kidding, it was leaps and bounds better than the previous one. Was the story still cliche? Yes. Were the villains still spotted a mile away? Totally. It still took everything good about the second game and amped it up a ton for this one, including adding some neat new features like the ability to combine cars into super vehicles. That was awesome.
There were a lot of old weapons here, but a ton of new ones as well, including teddy bears that were combined with a machine gun to make an automatic sentry. The zombies were turned up to 11 as well. In the entire second game, I killed about 2500 zombies. I haven't even finished all of the stories and I'm up to almost 25,000. So awesome. There are few things better than driving a tank through a crowd of a hundred zombies.
The voice acting? Miles better than the first one. The protagonist still had a ton of stupid moments where you facepalmed because he was an idiot, but he was more likable than Chuck Greene. The story did actually have a few neat twists that I didn't see coming, which is always very nice.
The psychos were actually done much better in this one too. They were still challenging without being ridiculously hard, and they had a neat 7 deadly sins thing going on with them too, which I thought was a really nice touch.
It did have its problems. There were a few head scratcher problems from the characters which is always annoying. Some of the collectables are in ridiculous places. The biggest issue for me was some of the barricades which seemed to just be there to be annoying. In-story they kind of make sense a little, but in game less so. They were too random to be anything but "we're just putting these here to annoy you."
Overall, a much better experience. It felt like a real game, and not just "we want to kill zombies, but we need a story and good gameplay."
"D-do we really, though?"
Also, since there's so much time between cutscenes, I've taken to watching Narcos while I play. Enjoying it so far. I also watched Mindhunter, which was excellent, and Manhunt, which was about the Unabomber. It also was pretty neat. I'd suggest them both, but mostly Mindhunter, if for no other reason than the main serial killer, who was absolutely exceptional and stole the show.
And I'm leaving my current job (fast food cashier) and hoping to move to another job at Sprint as a salesperson. Wish me luck on that one! It would be so much better than "would you like fries and a drink with that?"
So there's all that, then.
get DR4 it gets rid of the time limit stuff you don't have to worry about the military coming or any of the stuff similar to that from DR2 and DR3
Just want to mention that if you want a bit more better variety. Try your hand at "DR2: Off the Record". A bit more better than the original DR2. You encounter a lot of psychopaths that are just downright bizarre and kind of gives you a bit more incentive to hunt and take them down. There's the alternate bout in "what-if" fashion if you encounter Chuck Greene things get dark and turn for the worst (especially when you have to put the poor guy down... that's if one manages). The highlight to it is the obvious Sandbox Mode" that you can start off with at the main menu. Typically in video games one would have to unlock something like that just to enjoy it. "Off the Record"? Complete opposite! That, and you can take whatever experience that you gained in sandbox mode straight towards the main game. Similar to 4, Off the Record doesn't have any time limits in sandbox mode. So, you have the whole entire place for your battleground endeavors. And, the best part? You play as Frank fricken West, what more could you want!? And like the previous commenter. Get DR4 if you desire. ... One glaring thing about it though. Cosmetic wise, Capcom took a step down and made the game more "tolerable" but very less detailed. No animations for hitting dead bodies, I think no shadows and other eye glaring things. So, if you are careful to detail and one of those types of gamers it may not be the title fo you. Have fun out there champ! I never get tired of Dead Rising in general.
That one was actually introduced in #2, but it was one of the ones you needed to examine a poster to get the full blueprint of. Entrance to the northernmost bathrooms, if memory serves.
Still, glad to hear you've been enjoying yourself more this time around.

Oh yeah, I think I do remember that now. Eh, either way. It was awesome.
But did Celldweller do the soundtrack like DR2?
DR3 was a treat, and the collectibles can suck a dick.
It was neat that they pulled a plot thread from the first one full circle with the infected/asymptomatic orphans.
The best Super Vehicle is the motorcycle with the steamroller drum.
