Merry Christmas! Here's what's been happening and where it's going.

So here's what's been happening for... well, years now. First of all, I was a grad student, trying to get a Master's Degree. I had some big up s and some decently bad downs. In addition, I was unemployed for seven months AND I live with my parents. Not exactly a good combination for free time, not having money and being hounded because of it. Then I finally managed to get a job... as a

Thinking of the past in the future

So good news, I finally finished a grueling class and managed to get an A in it, so I've got about a week or two of mostly free time (still need to find a job). So expect updates coming.

Trying to get back in the groove (Fan request)

So as you can tell I haven't written anything in a while. Life has been difficult lately, and every time I try to write I get distracted or lose interest. I don't want to let you guys down though, but I can't seem to get the motivation, at least for the stories I already have. I have so many new ideas but I don't want to work on them until I get some other things finished or at least progress

    Patreon Voting Deadline

Just so you guys know my first Patreon fanfic poll will be ending tomorrow. This is deciding which fic I will focus most of my effort on and (hopefully) finish the next chapter by the end of the month. Right now it's 2 to 2 between "Epicness" and "(Un)Dead" (so I may have to just toss a coin. Remember, $1 patrons get to vote, and $3 patrons get to look at and leave comments on the fic google doc

    Getting Down to Patreon

Some 6 month internship ended, and though I will be looking for a new job I will also be using to this free time to both get back to really working on my fan fictions and start using Patreon in earnest. As I mentioned before, I'm going to have one tier on my Patreon where Paetrons can have a look, and leave comments, on certain fanfic chapters I'm working on. So here's how this is gonna work.

STILL ALIVE! · 4:53am Feb 7th, 2018

Yes, I am still alive, and I've got some good new for you guys! I've been working on Epicness and I should hopefully have an update ready by the end of the week. I hope you guys who have been patiently waiting will enjoy it.

In order to have some interaction with you guys, let's have a question: What's your favorite "one and done" game? By that I mean a video game that did not, or at least was never intended, to have a sequel, prequel, or whatever, and why do you like it? Mine is Odin Sphere and it's HD Remake Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir.

The game is very loosely based off of the Der Ring des Nibelungen and as such has references to Norse Mythology and the end of the world. But in Odin Sphere there are three themes main themes to the story:

The first is Perspective. The game's story is a Rashomon style plot where each character has their own perspective, and sometimes the heroes of one chapter are seen as the villains of another.

The second is Fate. A large part of the story is centered around the prophecies of the end of the world, and those that try to avoid or fulfill them. It also is about those who try to deny and resist fate often end up fulfilling it in a way they didn't expect, and those that try to manipulate it to their own ends are often blindsided by it. Both cases can turn out for better or for worse.

The final theme is Love. Not only about romantic and familial love, but also what people do in love's name. About what great and terrible things things people can be led to do to keep or attain love, how even a chance at being loved can rekindle one's soul, and how losing it can utterly destroy a person down to their core.

The game originally came out on the PS2 and has an amazing art style (what do you expect from a Vanillaware game?) but you really need to track down the remake. It's not just a visual update but a complete overhaul of the experience and combat systems. I played the original and while I love it despite it's faults I can never go back. The remake is available one the PS3, Vita, and PS4. I really recommend checking it out.

How about you guys? What do you have to share.

Yes, I want more Epicness. :rainbowkiss:

I also liked Dragon's Crown, especially in co-op mode.
But the best for me would be "The Legend of Dragoon" for Ps1 and "Shadow of the Colossus" for Ps2. For the long and entertaining story in the first as well as the visuals and fights in the second.

What he said.

Glad to hear that.
My game would have to be Dust: An Elysian Tale

Anyways I loved everything about it. But the thing I loved the most would have to be the story. And the ending just broke my heart.

My favorite game is Ōkami. Like you I'll give three points why.
First the art. Styled after ink wash painting, the game is beautiful. And its the only game I know of where a key mechanic of the gameplay is based off of the art style.

Second the story. It combines japanese folklore to tell how Amaterasu saves the land from darkness. I love how the giant boss monster introduced at the begining is't the final boss.
Third is the characters. Its hard to put into words what i love about them. Mostly its the small things, like how Amaterasu sleeps when ever there is a lot of dialogue.

and "Shadow of the Colossus" for Ps2.

I've got some news for you.

I love Okami, especially the music. I can't tell you how many times in the past I've just sat there, closed my eyes and listened to "Reset (thank you version)" on repeat.

I know about the PS4 version but I said Ps2 because it was a unique experience for me when I was younger and it was quite unique when it was launched, the new version is more nostalgic than anything else.

Also, Okami is not a one and done, it has a sequel.images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61cHY1n1SkL._SX425_.jpg

Understandable. I just pointed it out on the off chance that you hadn't heard about the remake.

Also, Okami is not a one and done, it has a sequel.

I don't have a DS, so I've never played it. And even if I had, from the videos I've seen and articles/reviews I've read, the first game was better in pretty much every way.

Also, the ending -while obviously leaving the door open for possible continuation, based on the fact that Okamiden exists at all- wasn't sequel bait. It was a satisfying conclusion to the narrative, and I would only really be interested in another one if it was a true "Okami 2" with Ammy as the protagonist.

Hmm, a game which was never intended to have a sequel, and still hasn't yet? Yet still manages to be a work of art...

I think I'll have to go with Eternal Darkness. For all the clamoring for a sequel (Sanity's Redemption, where are you?), the game itself was a very neat cosmic horror story from start to finish, and wrapped up in a very Lovecraftian way. The controls, certainly, were dodgy -- this was just before or around when Resident Evil 4 was released, and as such, the tank controls are very much near the end of that era. The magic system was broken as all get-out, and some of the game's tricks and traps were less 'get good' frustrating and more 'ha-ha, I tricked you again'. Even so, its handling of the plot, the graphical layouts, et cetera, were superb.

It probably shouldn't have a sequel at all, to be honest, and the reason for that is also one of its greatest mechanics: the sanity system. The way it handled sanity drops was perfect, playing tricks on the player instead of the characters, tricks which were so fundamentally enjoyable -- ranging from jump scares to a MGS-esque 'deleting save file' claim -- that doing it again would just feel cheap. I'd not be opposed to seeing an HD remake with some corrections from the first go, though.

Looking forward to the next chapter of everyone's favourite lunatic swordsman!
