The Month of Love · 9:21pm Feb 2nd, 2018

Hello to all!

Ahh, February. Already... Wow. Time is slipping from me fast than I want to admit. Some interesting tidbits about this month, it actually used to be known as Februarius by the Romans, which came out of the Latin term februum, which translates to purification. Kind interesting, and somewhat fitting in my mind for Valentine's Day... or singles awareness day.

But I want to point out that love has all sorts of meanings, levels, and extensions. While February and Valentine's Day is usually catering to the romantic level, take some time to let your friends and family that you appreciate them too.

To celebrate this coming month of love (or singles awareness month), I have on showcase my some of the favorite romance stories from FiMFiction. You'll find them on a dedicated bookshelf on my user page, but I also want to leave some links and talk about them here as well. If you want to find some others, just head on over to the romance section of my library. Or better yet! Go to my read it later section and help me sift through the mountain that thing has become. :applejackconfused:

In no particular order, we'll start with an older story, Restraint, by Habanc. From my comment on the story:

I deeply enjoyed this story, and I am a huge fan of the Rarilight ship. I hadn't been able to put it down since I started reading it today. It was well written, paced great, funny, and the emotions, my gosh those were great. I felt what Rarity was going to, you really made the characters come to life and stay to their personalities from the show.

Hurricane's Way is a masterpiece of the TwiDash ship. Honestly, I enjoyed the creation of the world, the pegasi traditions, and the emotions that were able to be conveyed the character's actions the best. Written by a true words-smith, Carapace has two sequels to this delightful story. The Challenge, and Visitation.

What are you willing to do to make up for something stupid you did to someone you love. Well, Rainbow Dash begrudgingly finds this out in Spring is Dumb when she made a slandering mistake against Rarity. Well done, funny, and a joy to read.

A pretty funny, yet short romance story is Apple-Shampoo. While it lacks the build-up of romance and the blooming of love and passion that I enjoy, it is hilarious as Rarity finds herself in a difficult to explain situation about smelling like apples...

Last but not least is actually a story from my Read it Later List that I am still in the process of reading. Glow is another story written by Carapace who must have spent his life as a pegasi, I can't rave enough about how expertly he uses pegasi wings and movements. Somewhat of an interesting ship, this has Twilight and Spitfire romanced together. The build-up is interesting, character reaction is awesome, words are crafted out of silver, and is different from the standard courtship sort of stories. While it maintains its T rating, it is pushing it, leaving very few things covered and a whole lot of imaging going on.

Do you have any favorite romance stories or ships you enjoy? Let me know in the comments for this blog, and in the mean time, please enjoy these stories!

My absolute favorite is Pinkie/Dash (with recently taking a liking to Pinkie/Sunset for Equestria Girls due to the blooper reels).

Just Being Pinkie Pie by hoofbitingactionoverload is short but sweet and I thought it was quite good.

Vaguely Familiar by Reptilicus is a longer story that I really enjoyed as well. It starts off from what may be a cliche premise (Dash gets hurt trying to make the Wonderbolts) but I would really reccomend that you keep reading because I think it is a very good shipping story as it really shows off a very caring but fun Pinkie Pie and it has some fun ideas on how a pegasus shows affection that nobody else did as far as I know.

Candy Apple by Ivory Piano will be my odd one out which has my favorite straight Pinkie ship which is with Big Mac. It is also short and very well done. I really wish I had seen more of these before the episode with Mac having a crush came out.

"Where your Heart Is" by Cloudy Skies is the ast I would put down. THis is a real classic so perhaps you have already read it. If not I highly recommend it. It has some very cool ideas in it and is sweet to boot. Heck it cemented some world building ideas such as why do pegasus items not fall through the clouds. This story gives a great answer to that and it serves a purpose in the story as well. This author has many other fine stories such as "Within and Without" which has a ship or two in it but is more an adventure story but also really great.

I hope this gives you a few new things to read that you will enjoy!
