This month is coming to an end and I’m WOEFULLY behind on all things blog! Also, I owe Nova Quill/Firimil a bonus blog as we had a little bet regarding Star Wars Episode 8 and severed appendages that I ended up on the losing side of.
So, of course, she asked for something that has nothing to do with Star Wars.
She wanted to know my thoughts on who would win in a fight between Rainbow Dash and Goku.
You almost never disappoint, fandom. Also, thanks to nounouille for the sweet pic.
Now, Nova didn’t give me much details, so let’s get this fact out where all of us can see it: unless Goku is roughly the age depicted above and there’s no GT black-star Dragon Ball nonsense involved, I don’t think Rainbow Dash likely stands a chance.
Okay! Okay! Give me a chance to do some research.
Not sure how many DEATH BATTLE fans I have reading but both RD and Goku have graced their vids and things would look grim for Rainbow Dash even BEFORE Goku could fight gods.
Let’s be honest… Goku could do this early in his career.
I’ll at least explain my reasoning here. We all know that Rainbow Dash is a physics-breaking bad-ass, but before Goku even hits adulthood, most his fights are against those whose don’t have time for rules or laws like “gravity” or “the square-cube law”. I’ll grant that even Season 1 Rainbow Dash could probably take season 1 Dragon Ball Goku based just off pegasai and Dash specific physics, but it won’t take long into Goku’s training career until his various tricks and powers.
Though, as I said, I’ll do some research to back my hypothesis.
This blog post is a fairly compelling argument regarding just how powerful Dragon Ball characters are, at least around mid-Saiyan saga. Basically, based on Piccolo’s ability to explode the moon and characters ability to shrug off that damage, late Saiyan-saga Goku is likely invincible by Dash’s standards. Saiyan-Saga speeds also seem to be insane. Dash can reportedly move at 123.83 Miles per second (Mach 10). There seems to be multiplecalculations out there for Goku (makes sense given the power scaling in DBZ), but Goku seems to be roughly 10 times faster then that after King Kai Training.
What I found interesting, is that pre-King Kai training, Goku is actually slower than Rainbow. In fact, she seems to be roughly twice as fast, at least at full speed. Now, speed isn’t the only tool Goku has at his disposal, but we at least know Rainbow can throw herself into rocks at alarming speeds and mostly end up dizzy. It’s simply NOT a contest at a certain point in Goku’s lengthy character arc, but that point may not be where I initially thought it was.
So, in conclusion, I’m actually willing to admit my initial assessment of relative power was off a bit. Especially going by pure speed, at least. I initially thought Goku could take this easily at almost any point we see him, but it seems a pre-King Kai trained Goku might actually fall prey to a Rainbow Dash’s speed and durability (plus Pegasi weather tricks…). Again though… Post-King Kai training and Dash couldn’t even keep up with his crazy speeds… But, maybe she could take on someone pretty week and pathetic from the Saiyan saga… like Chiaotzu…

Anyhow, the question as it was posed to me was “Who would win? Goku or Rainbow? Or would they just call it quits and try to out-eat one another while Goku pets the angry kitty?” On that note, there’s no real compelling reason for these two to actually fight. Dash is a flier not a fighter by nature and it’s not like the ponies initially look like the type of combatants Goku would start a fight with just for funsees. My guess is Dash WOULD challenge Goku to a to race. Something she’d loose horribly post-King Kai training, though something Goku would lose pretty easily BEFORE that period.

After doing a tad more research, maybe not. So, the "half RD's speed" thing seems to come from Death Battle calculation which looks like it missed some details regarding the Dragon Ball universe. Roshi is actually able to catch bullets which move roughly 5 times faster than dash at top speed... So actually, it seems my initial assessment was right and the only chance Dash has would be if Goku was a child and before even his turtle school training. Even THAT might be a stretch.

I've debated that myself... I mean... If there was any Starscream she could outsmart, it's G1 Starscream from the original cartoon... and no other version of the character... She IS faster than Starscream at top speeds and I don't know if Starscream could HIT her given her speed...
I dunno if there's any way to deal with his immortality though. They kinda played this up for laughs in Death Battle, but there's no evidence Rainbow Dash can eat immortal sparks that can posses organics.

The difference between Rainbow Dash and a bullet though is that a bullet is predictable. Rainbow's a stunt flier, so her movements would be harder to read.

After a certain point, the first tournament in DB Super, Krillin is actually more powerful than even Cell was. The only issue is that such a bar is so very low by the time he reaches that point. All the gods and aliens outclass him by leagues. HOWEVER, he outclasses EVERYONE ELSE by that same margin. Baring Majin Boo, Krillin is beyond anyone on Earth, and a large portion of his Universe. There actually isn't anyone else in Krillin's 'class' if you will. Everyone stronger than him by that point is rivaling the gods. Everyone else can't even touch him.
4782287 DBZ and FiM actually have something else in common: They both have ridiculous growth in power levels of the team of good guys, driven by almost every villain joining the side of the good guys by the end of the season. It's interesting that Krillin, and Master Roshi, are pretty much the only primary characters who weren't evil at one point or another.
