It's been a while.
I... I don't know what to say. When I got into MLP, I was a different person, and it was a different show. We've grown apart, FIM and I, and after a certain point the fanworks, my own fanfics, just stopped being able to bridge the distance. And that's not going into other changes in my life, most if not all positive (And I wasn't even in a bad spot to begin with) but which have served to further distance me from what was such a huge thing in my life from 2011 through 2015.
I have lots of conflicting feelings about the show nowadays. The earlier seasons I still love, but I recognize now that in many ways they don't hold up. The later seasons have a lot of stupid shit that was gradually added over time until the accumulation became too much, but they still have their moments of brilliance. And I still haven't even touched Season 7 or the movie, so I have no clue how I might feel about those.
Earlier today I heard the news about the G5 leaks. Dunno the details, just that it sounds like it has potential for greatness or horribleness, and people are pissed over Applejack for some reason. Nobody seems to want to explain exactly why. But it's got me thinking about MLP in a way I haven't for a while, mainly that I'm thinking about it at all.
I want to be able to still like it. It's why I keep coming back every couple of months, dropping a blog post promising to watch an episode and then never actually getting around to it. I want to feel the same wonder I did back in 2011, the same level of investment, but the show has done so much I can't stand, and in such a way that I have to be reminded of it every time I see an establishing shot of that crystal tree castle or Discord and Starlight taking up screentime from the characters I actually cared about, and it drives me away again. People say I can just stick to the fanfics, but for better or for worse a lot of the fanfic scene still integrates those same things out of necessity, and it's hard to find exactly what I'm looking for anymore.
So I have no clue whether G5 is gonna be amazing or if it will suck, but at least it'll probably be different. And that's worth a lot to me at this stage. It might be enough to get me back on the bandwagon, even if it's just me sitting on the back bumper counting the days until the new show's release, and noting with passing curiosity whatever catches my fancy as FIM winds to a close.
I'll try to watch a new episode sometime this week. Maybe I'll actually remember to do it, maybe I won't. We'll just have to see.
i think the show has gotten better as the characters have grown very few long running shows let characters actually reach there dreams but MLP does there characters have matured instead of just relearning the same lesson like you would normally get in a show
and in equestria girls sunset has one of the most realistic showings of a person changing who they are showing that people dont forget and even when they forgive you never forgive your self

First off, some of the characters have grown. Applejack and Pinkie Pie have stagnated, and Twilight went completely off the rails in a bad way.
Second, Sunset is my icon. She's one of my favorite characters on the show after Rarity.

twilights arc more or less ended at season 4 so thats kinda what happens you hit a issue when a character like twilights arc ends
as for apple jack and pinkie fair enough but rarity rainbow flutter shy the CMC luna discord new character starlight have all changed drastically

Season 7 has some definite gems. I hope you do take the time to look into it.
If S6 knocked you out of the show, do try S7, it's a significant improvement. Even if you don't like Starlight!
The movie was eh. If you like Sunset, it may be worth watching for Tempest, though. It may still be worth watching just for the experience/being up to date with the fandom.
What I know of the Applejack thing -- and I never actually saw much of the leaks, so this is all third-hand -- is the show runners absolutely hate her and are trying to redesign her to be not country anymore. I think I recall the phrase "less hickish" being used. Understandably, people are upset.

honestly id like G5 to not use the mane6 as main characters i hate how all transformers shows now have to use the same bots i liked it when the shows would only reuse optimus and megatron the rest where cycled through
so yea thats what id like MLP to do cycle through maybe G5 could have vinyl as a mane character for example

I mean, it's a new generation, we should expect the characters to be completely different. Look at Pinkie Pie in G3.
If they were going to change her to be a city girl, or a fashionista, or whatever, just to change up her character, that would be fine. That would be unicorn Fluttershy, whatever. But that they're doing it out of a desire to make her "less hickish", and that's a real slap in the face to everyone who ever identified with her. That's not okay.
