It Is Your Life · 10:58am Jan 8th, 2018
For the past few years, I have been wondering what it is that I want to do for a career. Not what I want to do with my life, but what I want to do for a career. What is the difference?
For one, a career is an occupation, a job that will take a period of your life. Whenever I hear the word "career," I think a job that will help me get by in life. A career is not necessarily what YOU want, but what you think you can do for a living. In some cases, some people just get unlucky and are stuck with their chosen career.
Now when I say, "what I want to do with my life...," it is as it sounds. I already know what I want to do with my life, but now how do I go on about doing it?
I want to be blunt and realistic here. Please keep in mind that this is MY opinion and I don't blame any of you if you get upset with me. Honestly, I hate the words myself. To an extent, I don't believe in the "follow your dream/passion" thing. I believe that only works for certain individuals.
For example, I work full-time as a sales associate and a LYFT driver to make extra money. I am currently going through financial issues and I don't have time or money to take the necessary steps to follow my dream. At least this is how I feel. I picked up someone from Huntington Beach who is a stuntman and actor. He was a very nice guy and I am happy to see that he made it as far as he did. I too wanted to get into the entertainment industry as a voice actor or writer. The voice acting, I feel like I can achieve. The writer? I know that will be a longer stretch.
The point is, that gentleman was in a much better position than I to achieve his dream and make that his career. For me, the way I planned my life, I plan to find a career that will help me get by. My passion, I will do that in my free time and hope that I can make something out of it. To be honest, I would be satisfied if I can a small fan base on YouTube for all I care. At least I got to be able to do it.
So I haven't given up on my dream and neither should you. You should also, however, think about your situation and take baby steps to achieve those dreams. Are you willing to work hard? Or do you want to keep your life simple? Do you want to make six figures? Or are you satisfied with what you get? These are questions you need to ask yourselves and only then will you succeed in life.
Keep in mind, succeeding doesn't mean that you are rich or anything. Succeeding is when you have that sense of accomplishment. The guy I picked up with Lyft, he is succeeding so far. Me writing stories on FimFic is just one sense of accomplishment and I will continue succeeding.
Why do I feel the need to say these things? I hope that I can ease other's minds and also prevent people from making the same mistake as I. I was always worried about what my family wanted me to do with my life. Their idea of a good life is to make a lot of money and work in an office with job security. That was THEIR idea of a good life, not mine. I have stressed so much about what they thought that I kept questioning my life choices. I believe, if I had just taken action and figured out these things, I would probably have my Associates or even Bachelors degree by now.
So if there is someone that is saying you are nothing or you are not going to mount to anything? Then you don't need them giving you that negativity. Find that person that will support you and you will be driven to succeed.
Thank you all for reading this post and I hoped that I helped in some way. Have a good 2018!
