IN WHICH NEW YEAR HAPPENS
A couple days late, but Happy New Year, y'all! Here's to hoping this year is better than last (which was itself better than 2016, a.k.a. the worst year of my life). Anyway, I have things to discuss beyond the jump, if you'll follow me.
OKAY. SO. The day after Christmas, my mother moved in with me. Within a week, she has almost totally removed any trace my ex lived here for seven years (except for my room where I'm keeping most of the Product she left behind). On the plus side, my home actually looks presentable. My dining room table can be eaten at again. Rooms aside from mine are clean. My ex's room which is now my mother's looks like a peaceful bedroom rather than a tornado hit it -- my ex was and probably still is a slob; I'll admit that. It sucks that a disorganized guy like me was actually the tidy one in the relationship.
Amidst the junk we found ancient gift cards waiting to be used (under Arkansas law, gift cards keep their face value over time even if you don't spend them).
However, I've been sleeping a lot more lately. I thought it was just the stress of taking in my neat-freak mother, but it could be anything. Like the fact that it's cold as hell even in the South and my bed is comfy. Maybe it's that I'm worried she'll start pushing me to write a real story -- "One Does Not Deny A Lady" was meant to be that story, but I ponified it (or EQG-ified it) at the last minute for a fun Halloween romp. It shouldn't be too hard to rewrite it as the treatment originally intended. I just don't feel like it.
Incidentally, HiddenMaster had a good point in his criticism of ODNDAL. I didn't make it clear enough to a new reader that it was Sunset about to get knifed. So I've changed a few words here and there to clarify. I've got a bunch of stories whose word counts have been borked by some of Knighty's updates, so I'll need to go back and add words here and there to several stories. YOU may not care, but I do. Y'know, a lot of people claim to have OCD. My claim is backed up by a psychiatrist; that makes it official. One manifestation: I like my stories' word counts to end on a 0 or 5, the more the better. I went out of my way to ensure every change I made to ODNDAL kept the word count exactly 3,000.
My top priority is to write and complete a whole new story in less than three weeks. As you know, every January 20th, I post a Mayor Mare story. It's one of my rituals and I haven't missed it yet. It may not be much, but dammit it's gonna be something. This time I'm thinking of focusing on her beleaguered secretary, Raven, who simultaneously loves and hates MMM.
I also need to get off my ass and actually publish a capital offense, since it's been completed and ready to go for awhile. I would have published it on New Year's, but I was kinda busy.
I've got a lot on my plate on the writing front, both here and elsewhere, for this year. Wish me luck!
Peace out!
