Cancelled · 4:41pm Dec 27th, 2017
It is a sad occasion, sad enough that I cannot greet any of my regular readers by typing the word "HUMPADUMP" repeatedly. What is this occasion?
Light Despondent was just cancelled.
(Also, the chapter title "Let It Die" was totally unintentional, I was just feeling a bit more Suda 51 than usual about 9 months ago when I titled that chapter)
I don't like that I had to cancel my favorite project (I know, I was very subtle about it) before I finished what I wanted to do either. But I also like the concept of writing in the classicsverse even less than that, because the classicsverse is fundamentally broken.
Though I spent years on Spectrum, writing alongside my friends, I stand by that assertion. Fundamentally. Broken. The HLF were written too much like Mad Max-style bandits but with less self-restraint, which led to things getting a bit plot-tumor-ish in Light. The main story meandered into filler that reminds me of the longstanding training segments in Dragonball Z without the training, few villains were all that interesting, Discord is portrayed as the hero despite acting as an even bigger dick than in canon, Celestia (which one? Yes) is supremely out of character, Princess Celestia is a weepy mess. Marcus Renee exists.
Considering that Light was originally planned to have Marcus shoot a pregnant woman, with no punishment, and no hint that was even A Bad Thing, I don't think I need to say more about that last one. [/rant]
And I'm sorry if things get cut short here, but the simple fact is: Spectrum is moving forward, and Light must move forward with it. It has been my belief that the story's supremely clunky beginning was what turned off a lot of people, so I have rebooted the story with what I believe to be the strongest part. Many of the things in the beginning - the wildly uneven tone, the clunky nature of it - must be brought up to the standards of the new main spectrum story, and my skill level as a writer.
Except Philistine. That's my favorite chapter, it'll probably be mostly the same, except for Yael shooting Kraber with this cannon from F.E.A.R. He'll survive, of course.
(bitches love cannons)
Anyway, if you want to see Light redone at my current level of skill, with a better first few chapters, then come on down and read The Light Despondent - Remixed!" The story is absolutely not ending, it's just going to be different. There'll be more viewpoint characters, more plot, (This can mean either story or exactly what you think it does) and more...
Well, you'll just have to find out. I hope you appreciate the changes I've made.
Insert "Its alive!" meme here. Which is more than I can say about my computer right now. I'll be sure to post the obligatory YouTube video into the first chapter once I'm no longer typing from my tablet.
