“Miss Gilda,” said the fortune teller ponderously, staring into the bowl of water, “I do believe your spirit creature is a gryphon.”
Rainbow Dash reacted quickly. “You’re a gryphon? That’s awesome.” The fortune teller tried hard not to give her a harsh look.
“That’s like a lion with wings isn’t it?” asked Gilda, cautiously.
“The body of a lion, with the head, claws and wings of an eagle.”
“Sounds pretty strong.”
“Gryphons are powerful creatures, it’s true. When angered they can be fierce. They can even be petty and jealous, if they don’t control themselves. But they are loyal, proud and principled. A gryphon makes a good friend.”
“Hey, do me next, do me!” interrupted Rainbow Dash.
Gilda grinned as she was pushed out of the chair. “Easy, tiger.”
“A tiger? Yeah, that would be cool.”
The fortune teller held her hands over the water and closed her eyes. She didn’t like it when people tried to suggest things. She didn’t like reading for two people at once, either, it ruined the mood. But paying customers where better than no paying customers.
“So what’s it say?” asked Rainbow impatiently.
Gilda nudged her and whispered, “Let her concentrate.”
She lowered her hands to the table and looked down. The image in the bowl showed blue skies, light fluffy clouds, and rainbows. A blue pony whipped past, with rainbow-shaded tail streaking out behind her. She smiled. “You are a pegasus,” she said. “A winged horse. Fast and free, you owe allegiance to no-one and the skies are your playground. Your weakness is motivation. But you too are deeply loyal to your friends.”
“So awesome!” squeed Rainbow Dash, who couldn’t see anything on the table but a plain bowl of water.
“Come on, Dash, don’t tell me you believe in this rubbish.” Gilda pulled her friend’s arm. “Now come on, let’s get some food before they sell out.”
The fortune teller didn’t say anything else as the girls slipped out of her tent. She was transfixed by the sight of a circular rainbow expanding into the sky, filling the water's surface. Its colours were reflected in her eyes.
I imagine that "horse" comes up rather often for that fortune teller.
I wonder what creature would Sunset Shimmer get. A human?
