I want a new computer. · 2:41pm Dec 19th, 2017
To be clear, at the moment at least, I don't need a new computer. My desktop rig still works and works well enough, but it is really starting to show its age. I've built and rebuilt it several times over the past decade. Some of its parts are that hold, but most of them are only 4 or 5 years old.
But I'm tired of Frankenstein-ing this thing back together again. I want something all new and better. I don't want something that's a bleeding edge monster of a PC, just something that can handle running Photoshop/Illustrator and not freeze up every few minutes. I want a PC that can run games from 2 years ago on at least the lowest settings.
I want that to be a goal for 2018: All new computer for Fuzz. But I know it's not going to happen unless I win the lottery or something. I have some many other things that will eat up the funds to buy a new computer that are so much more important. I have debts to pay and no way to generate income outside of Uber. So I'm just going to have to keep this old gal running for now and hope for the best. At least I can still write ponies on it.
Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need to go do more than I'm capable of in order to keep this household limping along for another day.

Start a gofundme for it and I'd contribute some.
What are the specs right now and what's the intended use case?

Current specs: potato. I've got a 1st gen i5 processor, and a graphics card that'll fit in a mostly empty playing card deck box. The power source is pretty okay at 650. Got 32gb RAM, two old HDD and a lonely ol' CD drive. Case is a Coolermaster, but only 1/2 the fans work any more. The MB is not bad...but it's at least 4 years old.
Intended usage: Running the current version of Adobe programs, primarily Photoshop and Illustrator, maaaaybe After Effects, using a basic Wacom tablet, dual monitor support, basic media use, probably some audio editing programs, and the ability to run Fallout 4 with or with out mods.
I can put together a parts list and build me a new one, but the main issue will be getting money that isn't better spent elsewhere to spend on said parts.
I want a new computer too, and I just got this one. :C Considering what it took to make that happen, all I can do is wish you luck.
If you have a 1st gen i5, you're probably (hopefully) using DDR3, which means your best bet is to part the machine out and put the proceeds toward a new one, either assembled or off the shelf.
If you don't mind mail-in rebates, Newegg regularly has fans free after rebate ( I have a closet full of them). Currently they have a 4-pack of Cooler Master 120mm fans for $8 after rebate.
I'd be happy to trade you several fans and a brand new CPU cooler for a commission!*
* assuming you live in the continental USA.

What sort of commission we talking here?

How about bribery to get another chapter of Spicy Tuna Roll or Chemistry?
Or failing that, just put it on my tab.

I'll note it on you tab.
I've got notes down for them, and now I'm thinking about them, so that will at least kick them forward toward complete. Could be a good New Year's project.
