Briefly, on leaks (and some plugs) · 6:30am Dec 19th, 2017

Over on Twitter, Infosec Princess Luna is upset, and I agree pretty much entirely. I still kinda like the show but I love the damn community, and I am not going to let this shit force me into binge-watching and ruining the community aspects of all getting together to take the show one week at a time. Remember when we used to be surprised by the show? How magical it was to have the Canterlot Wedding reveal or the sudden mid-season Cutie Mark acquisitions? That magic is way more important to me than indulging my curiosity.

So screw the leaks. Stop peeking behind the curtain, people. You're only ruining your own fun.

Let's talk about something else. Excuses to do some writing! You like contests, right? With actual prizes?

Cynewulf just announced a worldbuilding contest, deadline Dec. 30.
• The Lunbra group extended their deadline, and you've got until Jan. 10 to do some best pony shipping.
• Manaphy's contest for fics about the Wonderbolts also extended the deadline to Jan. 20.
• EDIT: As noted below, Crackships for Christmas is running till December 31 — you get a set of TSSSF cards drawn for you, and write a fic to make them work.

Any others going on? Say something in comments.

Finally, I owe a lot of people updates. Right now that update is: I'm here. :\ Life's been better, but I'm okay. I'm trying.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's a shell at the moment.

Am avoiding spoilers and leaks like the plague, as usual.
Also, life kicking you in the guts huh? Anything I can do to help? :derpytongue2:

I don't really care about the season 8/9 stuff, myself. I've been more interested in gen5 details. Which I've always been pretty guaranteed to hate anyway.

The monthly contest club's Crackships for Christmas, which I'm running, has two weeks left if anybody else wants to join in. https://www.fimfiction.net/group/201746/the-monthly-contest-club/thread/340932/december-contest---crackships-for-christmas

I don't really care one way or the other about the spoilers. These things happen, and I'll enjoy the show either way. I haven't done the "watch the episode the instant it comes out" thing in years in any case, so early or late is all about the same to me, to be honest.

Though I think it's downright daft how little respect some people have for other people's desires to not be spoiled. I don't care how "minor" it is, if it's info you got from the leak, don't just spew it about.

HAHAHA. Wow, that infosec princess luna reads like a seth abramson twitter thread with a chrome ponification plugin installed. Why am I reading so much about leaked emails on russian servers in twitter threads nowadays (ignore avatar). Even on /mlp/ half of the people wanted the dirt and were sad that early episodes were leaked.

At best, what we have is a mixed bag coming up. The emails re internal development of future plans is really disheartening. The showrunners struggle so much (and often succeed) in creating a magical show despite a heavily rotated writing staff that I want to be optimistic and charitable but it's really tough to imagine them living up to the original vision of the show or even what we have now.

Remember, what's fun for you, and what's fun for someone else can be totally different things. For me reading the spoilers was SUPER fun.

So screw the leaks. Stop peeking behind the curtain, people. You're only ruining your own fun.

Really, if it was just people ruining their own fun, I wouldn't mind. But this is almost certainly going to ruin other people's fun, too, when the spoilers spread, when promising stories and fanart never get made because the leaks have pre-emptively jossed them, when people abandon the fan community because they lose interest in things they've seen (incomplete and unpolished) or because they're turned off by the spoilers.

These spoilers don't do a lick of good to anyone, and to Tartarus with the asshole who decided it was a good idea to spread them around.

Why bother say anything when their gonna do the opposite humans are complicated like that when someone says don’t do this of course we’re gonna do it

Huh. Didn't think my blog was poignant enough to link to. Thanks. Though it's a shame that this needs to be said...

Also, the Princess of Information Security was a insightful delight. Thanks for that one as well.

I feel like everyone I know is in the Okay/Trying camp lately. :pinkiesad2:

I don't even consider these to be proper leaks, from everything I've heard about them being incomplete.

Thanks for thinking of my contest, hon.

The world moves on--nil desperandum

I should think about participating in a contest one day...

nah.

I'm in the same not great camp too... but I'm working on it.

Thanks for the spotlight, and I do hope to see your entry!

Dag yo, took the words right out of my mouth. :applejackunsure:

H-Biggity, I'm also looking askance at the leaks. I've heard through one of my groups that there's something squee-worthy coming. I've heard that the G5-pocalypse is at hand.

I don't bucking care.

I mean, I kind of care. It's more than a bit of a shock. But we all still have a year-plus before the curtain falls, and who knows what might come after that. It's not all bad and it's not automatically either good or bad anyway.

Let's make it a year-plus worth remembering. :rainbowdetermined2:

Sometimes "I'm alive" is all the update that's needed… I'm definitely in the okay/trying camp too.
Thanks for pointing out those updated contest deadlines! I might actually get one or both of my prospective entries done in time
