That One Feeling... · 10:48pm Dec 14th, 2017
...That you get when you feel that your story is suffering from what I like to call "Harry Potter Syndrome."
Like, I got into the Harry Potter books a long time ago, but when I talked to people about it, a lot of them said they couldn't get past the first chapter because they found it "too boring" and were judging the series as a WHOLE by the first chapter and the first chapter alone. Ultimately though, that's not the right way to go about it. You need to look at the BIG PICTURE in order to properly judge a book, or even a fanfic for that matter. Like, I have eyed the stats and have noticed that the first chapter has the most views; the prologue is second to this, but the rest of the chapters have a deep slope of difference in lack of views, which is not only irritating but frustrating as well.
Seriously, if you're going to read something I am legit pouring my blood, sweat, thought and tears into, at least have the decency to at least GLANCE over the other chapters before you make your final opinion. I know it sounds legit selfish, maybe it is, but if you're a writer that has done pretty much the same, you would ultimately understand. A story cannot be judged by ONE chapter because that is only a fragment of the entire effin' plot. There's more to it than just that.
Maybe I'm just ranting, but whatever. I needed to get it off my chest. Sorry. : P
If you truly feel this way then congratulations, you're human.
Try adding your story to some groups, there are literally dozens made specifically for new writers wanting to advertise their stories and they'll be more than happy to help you at any time. Don't feel as if you're suddenly a selfish person wanting more people to read your story. Compared to the other things happening in the world right now, wanting a bit of appreciation for obviously hard (and good) work is normal and perfectly okay.
I mean hell, my first story I never even completed 'cause it was some cringey shit about my OC on a quest with a talking fez, my second story was a moderate success only because it was a one-shot and featured some old friends of mine favourite lesbian OTP and any other ideas I had for stories were flushed away due to my inability to get off my ass and write something.
So in conclusion, I'd say you're already better than about 2/3 of the people on this site, including me.
Go write young man, and get featured for the brilliant work you do.

Aye, thank you for understanding. c: I'll try to see what I can do to get it out there a bit more.
