Patreon Headsup, they're being scummy · 10:45pm Dec 7th, 2017

This is a mention for anyone who uses patreon either as a creator or patron, they're introducing a fee change that could really hurt.

And the worst part is they're spinning it as a benefit to the creators.

Here and here are two people who can explain far more eloquently than I can but the gist of it is they're doing a massive cash grab under the guise of helping creators.

It's a small amount but it adds up fast, and not everyone is on a big budget. If nothing else, this is really rotten behaviour and shouldn't be tolerated to easily.

I'd appreciate if you'd spread the word around as they haven't implemented this yet. Also reach out to those you support and see if there's a different way t support them if it means it'll be a bit too pricey for you.

Thanks for the heads up. I've informed my patrons, in as balanced and unpanicky a way as I can. Thankfully it's not a major source of my income.

Hap

Yeah, I've already cancelled all my pledges, when I saw the email from them.

I'm open to supporting FimFic in some other way. I lost my bronze badge here instantly tho.

*sigh*

Thanks for the heads up! I don't give much, but it is spread across a few creators and could really add up if they're being particularly productive

Under this system, it may be better to pick one & give more to that one.
That's how I usually did charitable contributions anyway--it's a lot simpler at tax time.
My mom gives to, like, fifty different charities a year, and then at tax time it's a mess.

But of course if you want to read their Patreon posts, that won't work.

All my Patreon posts have a Google Docs version, so I can whitelist anybody who uses paypal instead.

So far none of my patrons have quit, even though I made sure to tell them all about on on both Patreon and Facebook. I didn't have that many to start with though.

To quote from my own Patreon page:

What reward will I get for my patronage?

Nothing.

Nothing? Seriously?

Everything I create for this project has always been completely free for everybody, and it always will be. This includes work in progress as well, since this open source project is hosted on GitHub, and I appreciate feedback from as many people as possible. So patrons won't get any extra content or early access, they'll help me make extra for everybody.

4744345 Cool. Will you come to my house and wash my windows for free, too? 'Coz they're really dirty.

4744257 The point of patreon is it makes it straightforward to donate to a buncha folks. But with this change, it's kinda murdering that.
