Y’all are familiar with the term “sword and sorcery”, right? For those who aren’t, it’s a genre of fantasy literature. Instead of focusing on grand quests that could influence the fate of the world, it focuses more on personal conflicts. Anyway, there is a term for science-fantasy stories of this sort. You want to know what they’re called?
Sword and planet.
What a horrible fucking name. Seriously, it’s so fucking ugly. “Sword and sorcery” is a nice name. It illiterates. It flows off the tongue real easy.
But “sword and planet”? Not so much. It’s awful. I mean, I know why it’s called that; to let people know that it’s sword and sorcery, except in space. But it’s still a terrible name. It sounds ugly. It even looks ugly. I can’t fucking stand it. Couldn’t they come up with anything better? Literally anything would be better.
I propose we re-name “sword and planet” to “space and sorcery”. Everything about it superior. It illiterates. It has the same number of syllables as “sword and sorcery”. It looks nice.
This is what I’m calling it from now on. Nobody can stop me.
