Opinion Poll. (Slight spoilers for The Movie) · 10:08pm Dec 2nd, 2017

Just a quick question for everyone.

If Tempest Shadow were a human, how would you think her broken horn would translate over? By that I mean her horn is a huge part of her character; for a lack of subtlety, it’s an obvious handicap that she initially wants repaired. Much like any of us would want a limb grown back if we lost it, or to have a prosthetic implanted. I think it’s an important character detail, and I wouldn’t want to underplay it in translation.

So how would you compare a missing horn to a human missing something?

A very interesting question. The best thing i could come up with is having a scar on her forehead where her horn should be.

Tourettes? And I only mean that half-jokingly. When her horn is broken, she looses some control on how she can interact with and change the world around her. So an inability to control something about herself, speech as a crude example here, makes a bit of sense to me. An amputee, while I think it may be superficially similar, might not be sufficient enough to show crippling this would be to her, or how helpless or she would be without her magic. A whole sense is gone. So maybe deaf or blindness might be appropriate.

Or maybe I am downplaying how much it would suck to only have one arm. I dunno, still have both of mine.

I would think a missing arm or hand--probably the right hand, if that's her writing hand. If you wanted to take it a little further, maybe you could make it where her arm's stump is burned and scarred, and the tip sticks just outside her sleeve.

EDIT: Or both, for that matter. Though by that point, then you're drifting into Rin Tezuka territory. Speaking of which, another option would be Hanako.

Her dick, obviously.
Seriously though, I wondered the same thing.

As a unicorn's horn is a major body part, on the face no less, I'd say an eye.

Come to think of it, Star Trek movie VI had the Klingon "villian" sporting an eye patch. At the conclusion, humanity and the Klingons made peace.

Probably missing her dominant arm from about the elbow down. My explanation would be that she either lost it to a bear, or in the field as a soldier.

I'd probably end up scaring her face up a bit more, to make her more intimidating. Maybe even hinder her sight and hearing on one side, and probably some more scars that could hinder movement however slight that might be.

ps: I'm sorry if my grammar is bad

I'll have to go with dominant hand

To level in with my own thought, I had considered her missing her middle finger, ring finger, pinkie, and a majority of her outer palm of her hand (which hand I can’t be sure of as of yet). I thought this because she still has her horn and it still functions in a sense. However, as we know, it works in a flailing, unnatural manner. She could still use her hand this way, but without any actual gripping or many fingers, it’s a frustrating limitation that she has to deal with. While the loss of an arm is horrible, I feel like it overplays her disability; saying that in translation, the whole function of her horn makes a part of her completely useless. However, that’s my thought on it.

Perhaps you’re all right. That’s why I’m asking for input.

That would work. Major loss of grip strength, visible enough to be mockable, likely fixable with some work. Although, human prosthetics isn't quite the same as fixing a magical break, but I'm not sure there's anything you can do on that front.

That would honestly work a lot better.

He'll yeah bro. Loss of a pinkie finger would be crippling. All the nerves or somthing run through there.

I'd think that she would be blind in the eye that her scar is over.

Perhaps make her physically disabled in some way. It can't be something she was born with, though. It has to be the result of a childhood accident, just like what happened with unicorn Tempest.

I remember seeing a similar injury to the hand of a retired crocodile wrangler who got too close with one of his charges. That actually works way better than my idea.
