    Hello everybody,

Damn, seems like time really flew by, who knew that moving to another country would be so time consuming and stressful? :rainbowhuh:

Jokes aside, I've been thinking about, well, everything here, really. I still feel like I'd like to try return to writing even if on a much smaller scale.

You know that I'm talking to you... You stuck this idea in my head so I'm expecting to see you in the comments section as soon as the story is up, which should be really soon! :yay:

Until then, here's a little sneak peek at chapter 3 of The Queen of the Royal guard!

A couple of days have passed since Morning decided to take care of the changeling larva he named Honeydew. Until now he managed to accomplish his work and take care of the baby without raising any suspicion, but he didn’t know how long his luck would last. The baby grew healthier and heavier by the day, it was astonishing how quickly changelings could grow! No wonder they have entire swarms at their disposal.

Despite the rapid growth, the baby was still about two thirds the size of Morning’s head, it’s white, pajama-like skin turning into a nice shade of light grew. Her fly like eyes has changed as well. Before, it was kinda hard to know where exactly she was looking at as her eyes were completely monochrome, but now her eyes developed a lighter shade of green that tells where her vision is focusing.

All in all, Morning’s everyday life went pretty well, a bit more stressful but well.

Morning Rays woke up early in morning like he always did, a quick visit to the bathroom to freshen up a bit, a quick visit to the kitchen where he prepares his usual breakfast of oats and pancakes and the new recipe in his menu, a fruit salad composed of cherries, sweet apples ordered directly from Sweet Apple Acres, bananas and most importantly, honey. During the time the baby changeling spent with him so far, Morning tried all recipes he could think of to add a bit of vegetable to Honey’s diet. He even asked a few tips from his mom in Manehattan, but nothing worked. Honey was practically a magically targeted arrow toward sugar and she wouldn’t accept anything else. This worried him to no ends, but maybe that’s the way changelings work?

Speaking of which, the time he spent with Honeydew proved to be extremely useful. Slowly but steady, Morning began developing a new strategy to detect a changeling without magic, using a really sugary mixture. He tested it with Honey. He would hide the mixture around the house and wait to see if she would find it, and indeed she did. one hundred percent of the time. He hadn’t had the chance to test it on the field yet, but it was promising.

Grabbing both breakfasts, Morning returned to the second floor and pulled down the stairs up to the attic that turned into Honey’s room. It’s hidden, it’s secure, and he discovered that the room had an excellent thermic isolation, so it never got too hot nor too cold.

Once inside the room Morning took a quick peek around to see if Honey was awake. The room was mostly empty the only furniture being Honey’s cradle that Morning built using some spare wood from Miss Cherry’s trees. The room’s wooden walls had a nice dark brown painting that kept the room relatively dark, even with a strong lamp on. It was a good thing since changelings apparently live underground, their eyes could be really photosensitive.

Other than that, the only place left for Honey to hide was her pillow “cave”. It was in fact just a bunch of pillows that Morning borrowed from the barracks back at Appleloosa, but Honey loved it. His fellow soldier friends would always complain at how hard the pillows were, but due to their firmness, they served as the perfect construction material for Honey, who dug some sort of chamber inside them, leaving some holes between them for peeking and ventilation. It turns out that she had some pretty strong changelings instincts, Morning guessed.

Sure enough, after hearing his entry, two emerald eyes stalked their prey through the peeping holes of her pillow hive. Suddenly a vicious black and grey little larva wiggled menacingly toward him. It pounced on its prey, mauling at his hoof. Causing him to giggle uncontrollably as he was tortured by the tickling sensation.

“Hahaha, Honey! Hehe, Stop! He, I’m gonna spill your fruit!” Morning pleaded, defenseless against the monster’s assault. Who, at a great sigh of mercy, released him so he could live another day. “Alright, here we go.” Morning chuckled one last time, laying her bowl of fruit salad on the floor where she could reach. Honey instantly dove into her food with as much voracity as her previous assault on Morning’s hoof. That’s something that has been worrying Morning for some time… She was still really small and her hunger was under control, but with her rapid growth, how long will it take for her hunger grow as well? Will she be able to continue living off of fruit? Or will Morning have to send her away with the other changelings? Honestly, he didn’t want to think about it that much, but maybe Morning’s enjoy her presence way too much…

Shrugging, Morning sat down next to Honey to appreciate his fresh pancakes and oats. A couple of minutes later, they both finished their food. Morning was about to get up when Honey started to cling him, nestling on his lap with a big yawn, she always liked to take a nap after eating, and she loved to snuggle with Morning. Maybe it was because changelings were used to living in such high number that she felt really lonely when he leaves to work.

Her sad face wounds his heart when he leaves but he must not forget, she’s a changeling, they’re master manipulators. He must leave for work.

“Sorry, Honey. I have to go to work.” He said, grabbing her with his wings and putting her in front of her pillow hive. She quickly turned around and wiggled toward him again, but he stopped her with his hoof. “No, no Honey, you stay here. I’ll be back at noon okay?” He tried to soothe her but to no avail. Her tiny ears dropping behind her head. “I’ll bring you some cherries when I return ok?” She raised one ear as a response, changelings might be master manipulators, be Morning used to be a father, he’s better at it.

Morning got up, collecting their empty bows and left, closing the attic hatch behind him. “Bye, Honey.”

Still hearing some muffled meows coming from the attic as Honey tried to call him back to her, Morning went to his room and hopped inside his armor, making sure that every piece was properly fastened. Grabbing his saddlebags he put a vial of his sweet concoction and left his home. Maybe today was the day he would have the chance to test it?
