Flash Notion

The hardest part about writing is that nothing you make is ever as good on the page as it was inside your head... but other people don't know that, so we worry over nothing.

    Jinglemas 2022

Hello. Been a while. So I signed up for this thing, as a way to get back to writing. There's still a bit of time left for the .5 of you who bother reading these posts but somehow aren't aware of one of the bigger site-wide events to sign up for it. Happy holidays!

I LIVE!!!! (and so does this thing...)

I'm not here to give another life update. Suffice to say, I've about given up on keeping myself "together". I'll try and get stories out, but I make no promises about when or what or anything.

But, for those who still care:
Beanis is back! Remember the beans? Majin does. Go give him the usual love/hate.

Only a couple hours to go (for me)

    So. 2020 is almost over.

This... certainly has been a year. Lots of bad things happened. Lots of bad things are going to continue happening.

I don't want to dwell on it.

Instead, I'd like to take the time to reflect on some of the good things that I experienced this year. In no particular order.

    Smol Update

December is here, the stores are playing Silver Bells, and this site's Jinglemas 2020 event has officially started.

I've gotten my prompt and made my outline. I just need to buckle down and write the thing.

Ponyville is Equestrian Australia · 2:04am Nov 28th, 2017

I have just read approximately all of the "Humans are Space Orcs"/"Earth is Space Australia" stuff. All of it. There was a lot of it.

Naturally, my brain was like, "how can I connect this to MLP?"

What I came up with:

Ponyville regularly gets attacked by monsters and villains. It's situated on the edge of a forest so dangerous nopony except the most powerful or foolhardy individuals goes in.
The town is, at this point, home to approximately 8 national and international heroes (counting Spike and Starlight. If we were to count Trixie, it would be 9, but she travels a lot). One of those heroes is an alicorn princess, practically a physical god. One of the others is best friends with the spirit of chaos himself, who also goes on world-saving adventures with a third and plays pony Dungeons and Dragons with a fourth. And one of them just refuses to obey the laws of physics.
Since those heroes appeared, Equestria has made alliances with at least four previously hostile nations. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I know about the hippocampi/hippogriffs and I assume we can bump the tally to five.
The town is also home to the first ever trio of cutie mark therapists. They're fairly precocious (not in that way) fillies, getting into more trouble than most adults could handle.
It may or may not also be home to a Time Lord.
Because of where the town is located, even the regular citizens are- by now- fairly calm in the face of great danger. Some even bored by it.

My point is: Ponyville is Equestria's Australia.

These ponies can fight dragons. They can defeat monsters from Tartarus without using superweapons. They made friends with griffons. They consider nothing to be impossible because they live with a pony who can grow seventeen arms and inflate her skull like a balloon. What might take others months or years to accomplish they do in the space of days or weeks.

If Equestria had better communication systems, Ponyville would be a meme. There would be talk about the weird things visitors have seen. Debates over whether something somepony talks about is real or made up.

"Bro, I watched this mare break the sound barrier just to get some ice cream. Said she had to do it in ten seconds or less."

"Pfft. No way ice cream would hold up at those speeds!"

"I'm tellin' you, it's true!"

"Hey guys, I just got back from Ponyville, you'll never believe what I saw!"

...

"What?"

Let me know what you guys think. Feel free to repost this, add to it, whatever.
