What The Frick... · 4:41am Nov 23rd, 2017
...do I gotta do to hit the featured box? My three most recent stories have hit the Popular Stories list. So shouldn't that be enough to gain a spot on the top of the front page? I mean sure being on the side bar is great and all but if I can land three fics in a week plus gain over ten followers in that same time frame shouldn't that mean something to whoever or whatever chooses the featured stories?
I don't know exactly how it works, but it's based on number of likes and views over a certain amount of time. How many over how long is the question. (Also, there are technically only 7 spots in the Feature box for new stories. The bottom three are for updated stories that have hit the Feature box before.)
If you really want to hit the feature box, try writing a clop story featuring Celestia.
4732740 So what you're saying is I need a few hundred followers so that I can get over a hundred views in a half an hour plus write a story about Celestia fucking someone or something.

Well, you don't necessarily need the followers, I've seen people make Featured on their first story. But there are definitely some story types that make the box easier than others. Celestia clop is practically an automatic pass, especially if it's a 2nd person or Anon story.

Eeeh, kinda. It's just what's popular, I don't think the mods actually control what gets Featured (Though they can remove stories). But Eg stories are always going to have more trouble getting featured, because the Eg fandom is a relatively small part of the bigger group. Still, getting Popular is nothing to snease at.
EDIT: Oh, and in general, Sequel stories tend to have a harder time getting Featured, because for the most part people are only going to check it out if they've already read the first story. Dark Sunset might have done better, stat-wise, if it were one story rather than three.
