why I'll be retiring · 10:23am Nov 17th, 2017

After the finale of the pony pov series is published, I'll be retiring from fan fiction.

I wish to retire from fan fiction, because I want to create my own worlds where I don't have to worry about elements that rub me the wrong way being inserted or my ideas for the world being proven wrong. Even in Dungeons and Dragons, where as Dungeon Master, your rule for the game world is law, the 'official works' and settings and characters can render what you've made irreverent or much more esoteric (so you have to buy the new game books).

Fan fiction appeal is simple and straight forward: Shake and bake characters and setting, and you don't need to expend energy getting the readers invested in the characters because the official work has done that for you. AND!!! Far more importantly, it gives you an instant audience who are going to go into your work knowing more or less what to expect, and you can count on more likely than not getting at least some exposure eventually.

But the price of fan fiction, has gotten to be too much lately, combined with promising my family I'll do original writing from now on rather fan fiction and seek out a publisher rather than continue to work on fan fiction. I am 35 years old after all. I'm running out of time.

Good going! Remember, you've built a fanbase here, and you should let us know what you're doing! We'd probably enjoy reading it!

Are you retiring here too? And I’ll give you a follow for goodbye my name is Henry Danger Super Fan.

What about Blackest Night? Or is that already done?-

Question: Why retire from fan fiction?

You could still write fan fiction. The only thing different would be that fan fiction would be a thing you'd do from time to time. Most of the time you'd be working on original writing to publish it for money. Fan fiction could be a way to get the "creative juices flowing" you know?

Write some short fics. Few hundred words at a time. Small scenarios and events. Some might evolve into a full story and be something to publish.
Think on it if nothing else. But anyways....

I wish that you have a wonderful time writing your own original work to publish. Have a great life!

Aw, I'm sorry that you're leaving!

Have fun with your favorite hobbies! :D

I’ll be interested regardless of what you end up doing.

Eyyyyy retired fanfiction author buddies

We'll be sad to see you go, but I understand. Please visit us from time to time. Let us know the original works you are making, and please check out our stories.

Well sorry to see you go I hope you take what learned for here to your future endeavors.

At least tell us what you'll be writing some day.

It's understandable, ya wish to do ya own personal fictional writings which'll be excellent just hope ya keep ya FIM fics up here cause I love rereading em

I'm not the primary author of that.

4727741
Because I tried that before, and the fan fictions ate it up.

Considering the quality of your work, I have no doubt that when you publish a book it'll do well. Godspeed my friend, I'm rooting for you. :D

I'm sure you'll come back here to share links when you are publishing your original fiction, and I look forward to it.

Care to give any hints on what you want your stories to be about?

It's fine if you wish to quit because you don't enjoy it anymore. But you shouldn't dictate what you enjoy on others opinions. Never stop doing what you enjoy.

Hmm... Alright then.

But you know what?
I was going to write a wall of text here but then i decided against it. No idea why i wrote it...
Took about ten minutes to write it.... Oh well.

Just keep doing what you like, OK? If writing starts to get boring or stale, then you can always return to writing fan fiction.
Have a great time!

If you wanna know what my wall of text was, you can ask for a PM.

In the end, do what you feel is best.

I don't understand why the possibility of writing both is off the table, as there are plenty of authors who do just that, but it's not my decision to make.

Best wishes for your future endeavors.

Good Luck! I'm sure you'll do fine, you write well and have proven you can produce on a fairly consistent schedule (which is a huge benefit to writers).

I'm sorry about your retirement! Wattpad and the Fanfiction websites can still be used to write original stories and non-mlp OC characters. :pinkiesad2:

Please don't delete your account or stories though! Have a great day!

This is both sad and happy news. I am glad that you are trying to publish your own work. I do hope it goes well because while I am only in the beginning of your long work I can tell you definitely have a lot of talent at writing. Good luck.

You're retiring?

That's good! Have a great life; what ever version of writing you take in the long run!

I've hit a road block.

Regardless of what you do I will look forward to what you make. :)

Will you still talk to us when you retired?

4732795
We'll know when we get there.

4732948
Well I Hope you'll drop us a line every one and a while. :)

4732437
Yay! Because you said "Are you retiring here too? " to Alex, that's why I assumed you were leaving! XD

4732363
LOL, I make an enthusiastic comment, and then you're like: "Yeah, life just isn't that way right now..." XD

I know how it feels, man! Just keep on trying! :D :scootangel:

I wish you the best in your new line of writing.

I hope you'll still stick around here even if you won't be writing fan fics. You're one of the few authors that always responses.

Huh... Speaking of which... When was the last time I read from Pony POV?! :pinkiegasp: Dang, I need to get my crap together. :facehoof:

I look forward to your comments. I regret not responding here on my early days, I think I alienated a lot of readers because o that.

Yeah, sorry for not getting back to it yet. My mind has been very unfocused for the past few months. :twilightsheepish: I'll get back to it soon.
