Princess Trixie Sparkle · 3:37pm Nov 13th, 2017

After three years of hard work, of laughs, surprises and tense moments, this series is over. And now it's time to look back.

At first, this story may look uninteresting or boring. I mean, let's take a look at the basic premise: Trixie and Twilight switch bodies, as well as the rest of the Mane 6 with each other and they have to recover their bodies before it's too late. Yeah, sounds generic. Besides, the problem with these types of stories is that almost all body swaps follow certain rules, which become tedious after a while because there's no surprise. And the story follows these rules too precisely: the Mane 6 trying to pretend to be the pony they suppose to be, the object that makes them swap bodies, the original body swapper enjoying the life of the other, etc.

However, as the story progresses, the twists become crazier and the story becomes darker and complex, almost to the point that it follows the formula of modern cartoons (remember how Adventure Time or Steven Universe started?). This is evident if we compare the first and last episode: the first episode begans with a parody cover of "When can I see you again?" from Owl City and the art is basically vectors from the show emulating what's happening in the story, with a bright color palette. The last episode ommits the main theme, has original art (from many different creators by the way) with a darker color palette and it has animated parts to some extend.

The voice acting is excellent. Most of them are actors and actresses not very well known in the Brony community and haven't had much appearances in other dubs, audio dramas or even other non-pony projects. Almost all of them play their roles perfectly. The only exception being Haste Dash, who's acting feels bland and lacks of energy for the most part. But aside from him, everyone else is in the right role. My favorite being Rachael Anderson, which brings me to the next point.

The characters are re-interpreted in a form we've never seen before. Like I said, it has clichés from body swapping stories, but here they don't feel distressing or tired. Part of it is that it takes advantage of a concept we'll probably won't see again in the show: the alicorn amulet. And, because we won't see it again, that means we can do whatever we want to it. The story brings the character of Astelle to the table and thanks to her the story makes us question things related to good and evil, immortality, destiny and fate and to what extent it can be reached to meet the goals that one proposes. Trixie also has a great progression in the story. Those who already know me know that Trixie is not exactly one of my favorite characters (heck, I even consider her one of the most overrated characters in the show), mainly because of her attitude and personality. However, here she's more open to change, she reconsiders things, she talks with the others and has willing to change and amend her mistakes, all without changing her egotistical, but more controlled personality (something that won't happened in the series because she still behaves like her old self, even after being reformed).

When I first started to watch MLP-related content, this was one of the first projects I watched and it was before it became popular thanks to Youtubers such as Alex Side (It's not about showing off, but it feels more satisfactory when you know you watched something mainstream before it was mainstream) I thought it was just another fan mlp. But as it the progress kept going, she added animations, better pictures, new story lines, etc. The songs were also lovely, voice acting on point. The first episodes, although funny and entertaining, were a little predictable and sometimes boring, however the series got better, and the ending was great! CLAP IT UP EVERYONE FOR MAKING THIS AWESOME SERIES!

I'll leave you all the episodes for watching, whether for attract newcomers or remember the good times.

Thank you, Magpiepony.
