Star vs the Forces of Evil Season 3 - Week One Thoughts (Spoilers) · 10:16pm Nov 10th, 2017

So after the premiere "movie" ran ages ago, this week we got regular episodes of season three for the first time, and I have some thoughts to crunch down.

So in seasons 1-2 we dealt with Star's awkward adjustment to a new world, Marco's eager adjustment to the chaos Star brought into his life, the growing friendship between them which had undercurrents of something more, and a constant clear and present danger, an actual evil to fight, in the form of first Ludo then Toffee. In season two, the waters muddied as Marco ignored his growing more-than-friends status with Star in favor of his crush on Jackie, while Star began to question the Mewnans' long-standing hatred of monsters.

Then Toffee came back and conquered Mewni through Ludo, Star was forced to return to Mewni, and everything went to shit. Glossaryck died, Eclipsa was released from encrystalment, and the whole magical world is in an uproar.

And that brings us to season three, where Star is back on Mewni to stay, since her parents need her around to help keep Mewni from collapsing. And now, things are changing:

- Star has gotten back together with her demon ex-boyfriend Tom.
- Eclipsa is advising Star, with subtle shades of Palpatine advising Anakin. Star doesn't think her royal family has ever been justified in persecuting Eclipsa, and honestly, on the surface, it really does look that way--but you just know Eclipsa is a full-on Sith Lord and her tutelage is going to take Star down a dark road.
- Marco can't return to boring Earth life after all he's been through, and he's not acknowledged that he's in love with Star, but he clearly is--he can't live without her, so he ultimately decides to go to Mewni to be with her and hang out with her again, breaking up with Jackie in the process. Only...
- Star's...moved on. And Marco showing up on Mewni out of nowhere was HELLA awkward.

Now, Marco has to find a place to belong in Star's life, which it seems like he has after an awkward false start, but with Tom back in the picture and Eclipsa being an unknown unknown, there's no telling what's going to happen before all is said and done...

Also, the random as fuck burrito scene in "Lint Catcher"? Marco totally showed up right after Star and Tom had sex. I mean, it's so freaking blatant that's what just happened.

Some of that Star-Tom sex is totally hate sex. At least 25% hate sex.

Marco's move to Mewni was foreshadowed when he earned his dimensional scissors from Heckapoo. From his perspective, he spent another lifetime chasing a demon throughout the multiverse. He didn't feel like he belonged on Earth then, either.

The idea of Marco falling for Star now that he realizes how much she means to him caught me off-guard. My biggest fear for this season is if they completely write off Jackie. She's one of the coolest characters, and while I may be a Starco shipper, I still really like Jackie. Hope I see more of her this season.
