Why Ponies? · 1:45am Nov 9th, 2017
My wife asks me that all the time. "Why don't you write the same stories only with humans?" Because I love the Ponies. I love Twilight and Applejack, I love Dashie and Rarity and Fluttershy and of course Pinkie Pie. I could go into why I love them but I think all the fans love them and I want to connect with my fellow Bronies in a way that most humans can't. I see them as living, breathing entities and I work hard at my writing to sustain that. Years ago a friend of mine, after seeing the film Forrest Gump, said he found himself worrying about him. Hoping that wherever he was he was happy and okay. My friend, by the way is a graduate of Amherst and is a successful entrepreneur. He fully recognizes that Forrest was a character from a movie yet he struck a powerful chord with my friend.
I feel the same way about the Ponies. I want to bring Twilight to find the love she so desperately deserves. I want Applejack to find a a deep and profound love (and have somepony pamper and care for her for a change! ) Every time I think of these two a million ideas pop into my brain. And above all else I know that they are right for each other, that's what makes writing for them so wonderful and rewarding.
I'm still moved to tears when I read "The Gift of the Ponies" Of course the idea isn't mine, so I don't take any credit for it, but I know those two Ponies and I know how happy Rarity is that they both found love. I put them through such hell because their love will withstand it.(movie spoiler alert)
Twilight Sparkle STEALING?? I LOVED IT! That poor sweet pony was put in an impossible situation and had the guts to make a call. You had to know it tore her to shreds inside, but there was no deusexequus (if you will) She is flawed. I put her in the same situation in book 3 and in the beginning of book 4 she curses herself for her decision.
Why? Because ponies can get away with far more affection than humans are ever allowed to engage in.
