Statement On Sutherland Springs Church Shooting · 12:13am Nov 6th, 2017

I condemn the attack against the church in Sutherland Springs. This disgusting attack was carried out on people who just wanted to worship. I give my condolences to the victim's families and I pray that they will get through this horrific tragedy

4721787 This game is making fun of republicans for not banning assault weapons. Bans never work. Banning assault weapons is against the second amendment

Evictus, how many people do you think die from islamist terrorism in the USA, per year? Please guess, don’t look it up. Also, how many people die from TVs falling onto their head, per year? Please also just take your best guess.

4742340 Why do you want me to guess

4742343
I’ll tell you after you guess.

4742345 Over hundreds each year. It's out of control

4742356
Not quite

8 people have died in 2017 thus far
49 in 2016
21 in 2015
0 in 2014
3 in 2013

Deaths from TVs falling onto your head throughout the same 5 years – there are no exact stats, but it seems to be slightly more, about 19 per year.

Falling off ladders is roughly 15 times as high; about 300 deaths per year.

Car accidents is roughly 1500 times as high, at 33000 deahts per year.

Do these numbers surprise you?

4742371 I still think terrorism is out of control so America needs to be stronger against any type of terrorism

4742383
Why?

The worst the terrorism numbers can get is if we look at everything up from 2001, because that’s when 9/11 happened. Even then, it is just about 300 per year. How is it out of control if it is at worst 1% as dangerous as driving a car?

According to these numbers, the chance to die from any foreign born terrorist is a mere 1 in 45000. The chance to die from an illegal immigrant in particular is 1 in 138 000 000. An accidental gunshot is 1 in 8000, five times as dangerous. Falling is 1 in 133.

How is terrorism out of control?

4742398 Because there is a terrorist attack almost each month
Boston Marathon Bombing - April 15 2013
Paris Attacks - November 13 2015 - November 14 2015
San Bernardino Attack - December 2 2015
Orlando nightclub shooting - June 12 2016
Westminster Car Attack - March 22 2017
Manchester Bombing - May 22 2017
Barcelona Attack - August 17 2017
New York Attack - October 31 2017
(I'm not listing them all because I don't have time the point is is that we need to be tougher better stronger and we have to defeat ISIS and Radical Islamic Terrorism, We have to be better stronger and vigilantier and we have to defeat this and stop these attacks from happening!!!!!

4742401
There is a terrorist attack every month, in the USA (most of them are not from isalm, though). But the USA has 9.834 000 000 000 m² surface area and 300 000 000 people. It is very, very big. And about 90 people die in car accidents per day, that is 2750 per month. Roughly the damage of one 9/11 every month.

So yes, there is one terrorist attack per month, but I don’t see how that is a lot. Once per month in such a large country with so many people seems like a fairly modest amount to me, and all of the numbers bear that out.

4742904 Hmm I disagree it wasn't like this before sure in years past there have been terrorist attacks but not to this extent (there have been shootings yes but not to this extent that Isis followers are carrying out or other wackos every single month!)

4742945
I’m not saying terrorism isn’t a problem. It is a problem, and it has gotten somewhat worse, and that’s obviously not a good thing.

But it’s not a very big problem. It’s less than 1% as big of a problem as unsafe driving. You can care about terrorism, just don’t make the mistake of believing that it is the greatest, or one of the greatest, problems we have right now. Because that’s simply not true.

The reason why this is so blown out of proportion is that news outlets universally don’t report on this proportionately. With so many people dying every day, you would think there would be daily headlines like

TERRIBLE TRAGEDY: 92 PEOPLE DEAD AND 133 INJURED IN 140 CAR ACCIDENTS ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY! WILL THE GOVERNMENT TAKE ACTION?

... but there aren’t. So it’s easy to have a distorted picture. But the numbers are all there to anyone who has google.

4743089 I have googled the numbers I still think something needs to be done

4743125
Fine. Let’s talk about how to reduce terrorism for a bit.

I think it is obvious that part of what motivates terrorism is that it has a big effect. Just committing suicide is not what terrorists want, that could be done with much less effort. So they have other goals, and the more it looks like those goals can be achieved, the more terrorism there will be. Do you agree with that?

4743496 No I don't. Terrorists don't have goals but they believe they have goals because they are brainwashed. Terrorism has only increased because people don't care and it will continue to increase. Something drastic needs to be done to reduce it. One thing that needs to be done is a massive survailance program another thing that needs to be done is restriction to the United States and finally we need more investigations into suspected terrorists and that's it

4743578
You’re making the mistake of treating it as a big problem again. That’s wrong. Remember, it is less than 1% as big of a problem as car accidents – realistically, closer to 0,1%. Mass surveillance, even if it would work, is too much effort to stop just a few deaths per year. There are hundreds of other things you could do with that kind of money that would save way more lives.

Unless you don’t think saving lives is what’s important.

4743670 I do think saving lives is important we need to put more money torward fighting terrorism and car accidents

4743806
But saying we should put more money towards every problem is saying nothing. We don’t have infinite resources. If you want to govern, you need to prioritize some things over others, and if you want to govern well, you need to prioritize important things over not as important things.

Back to terrorism – okay, let’s say terrorists don’t have real goals. They still believe they have goals, as you said. Would you agree that, the more effective other terrorism looks to them, the more likely they are to do terroristic things themselves?

4744192 They believe they have goals and the only way to defeat them is to restrict access to our country and Europe

4744221
I’ll get to how to defeat them in a bit. But do you agree that the more effective other terrorism looks to them, the more likely they are to do terroristic things themselves?

4744432 Honestly no. I think they do it because their brainwashing materials encourage them, it's true that they claim past terrorist attacks by past terrorists as success's but I don't think those necessesarliy encourage them. They are encouraged by their propaganda
